Central Vermont Council on Aging - supporting central Vermonters to age with dignity and choice.

September is Falls Awareness Month
Vermont was ranked 41st in the nation with regards to the % of adults 65 and older who had reported falling in the last 12 months . Central VT Council on Aging is collaborating with our partners to start to reverse this trajectory. Here are some of the events to promote strength, balance, and fall avoidance this year.

Fall Prevention Awareness Event and Workshop, Friday, September 22, 1-3 pm, Montpelier Senior Activity Center. A special proclamation in honor of Falls Prevention Awareness Month, followed by a Tai Chi demonstration, presentation by Stay Steady Vermont on balance and what you can do to improve yours, and individual fall risk screenings. Free and open to the public.

Senior Companion Program Launches Marketing Recruitment Project with New Video

Senior Companions are volunteers who help Vermonters to stay independent and remain in their homes. Companions assist with daily living tasks, provide friendly visits, and a much needed break to caregivers and their familie s.

So that we can better address the need for Senior Companion services in Vermont and to reach out to encourage more volunteers to join the program, we’ve developed new recruitment materials including the video attached Here . Enjoy! I
