From Our Clients
A Time for Thanks Giving
Dear Clients, Supporters, Colleagues and Friends,

It is the season for giving thanks and we want to take the opportunity to share some of the things we are thankful for.
Recently we made another visit home to help tend to the health needs of our parents. We are thankful that we made the decision to move back East to be closer to family and we get to spend more time with them than we have been able to for many, many years. Dealing with health problems is never easy, but we are so fortunate to be readily able to get home and help where we can. Proximity allows us to take work with us and temporarily set up shop so that we don’t have to put a hold on the project needs of our clientele. We are thankful that we made the move to Oil City; we have really been embraced by the community here, and the friendship and comradery that they have shown us has helped making the cumbersome task of uprooting our lives that much easier.

As always, we are thankful to have the best clients and supporters around the country. You make doing what we love possible! We thank you for following our work and for supporting our efforts to create beautiful and meaningful living environments through our design and art!

The year is flying by and we can't believe it is already time for our winter art shows! We start loading the van in a couple of days and will be setting up for shows the next two weekends. Learn more about the Roycroft Winterfest and Crafts Morristown below.

Also, we have assembled our next preview of our European adventure with the second installment of our stay in Rome. Prepare to meet the Art Nouveau jewel: The Little House of the Owls – it’s awesome!

Sincerely, Barbara and CJ

Our Summer Vacation:
36 Hours in Rome PART 2
In our last issue, we shared with you that we were gifted an incredible late summer trip to Europe. We will be sharing the art and architecture from our experiences with you for quite a long time! If you missed the story of the Art Nouveau treasure Quartiere Coppede in Rome, you can learn more here and find an expansion of photos and information here .
Rome Continued: The Little House of the Owls

After visiting Rome’s Quartiere Coppedè , we set out on foot to the Villa Torlonia – a huge public park along the via Nomentana – to find the Casina delle Civette
[The Little House of the Owls].
Like the Quartiere Coppedè, The Little House of the Owls is a little-known Art Nouveau gem located on the grounds of, what used to be, a private estate called the Villa Torlonia. The Villa Torlonia is now a public park with gardens of undulating paths that wind through numerous exotic plants, sciadopitys verticillate [umbrella-pines], around small lakes and past diverse architecture: obelisks, follies, temples, the neo-classical Villa Torlonia – even a Moorish grotto!
The original Villa and grounds were designed in 1806 by Neoclassical architect, Giuseppe Valadier, for the banker, Giovanni Torlonia. Giovanni’s son, Allesandro, later expanded the grounds with new gardens and in 1840 built a “Swiss cabin” as a refuge from the formality of the main house. Located on a remote part of the property, the isolated Swiss Chalet was remodeled by yet another Torlonia descendent, Allesandro’s nephew, Giovanni Torlonia [the younger] into what was called the “Medieval Hamlet.” The “Medieval Hamlet” is what is known today as the Art Nouveau masterpiece, The Little House of the Owls. The house gets its name from the multitudinous references to the nocturnal bird found in and around the cottage in wood, stone and stained glas s.
After navigating the great amalgam of architectural ephemera located on the park grounds, we finally came to our destination: Casina delle Civette. Fortunately for us, The Little House of the Owls is now a museum and art gallery.

Follow the images on our Facebook page here to see and learn more about the house.

Stay tuned for the next segment of our travel to Rome, Greece and Barcelona!
Thank You! We Love Your Feedback & Referrals
We love hearing from you and we really appreciate it when clients and followers take time to give us feedback.
We recently received a greeting card order from someone we met almost 15 years ago. We remembered our conversations with her fondly and were really happy to hear from her and learn that she had been following us all these years! And, we were thrilled that she wanted a customized package of cards to give as a gift.

We really appreciate the card order, but just as much, we were moved by the note she sent: "With gratitude for all you both do" . Thank you, Teri, for taking the time to write and for appreciating our efforts!

We value all of you who follow our work. In thanks,

Barbara and CJ
