Get to Know the Board
Mark Bertler, CAE
Public Member of the HPCC Board

My career has spanned over 40 years of service in public health, human services, and non-profit management.  I have had the opportunity to serve in both board and staff leadership positions in a variety of organizations.

While still in college, I began my career as a community organizer in Oakland County, Michigan, developing youth recreation programs, crisis centers, free clinics, and programs for runaway and homeless youth. My interest in public policy eventually took me to the state capitol in Lansing where I became the first lobbyist for the state network of Planned Parenthood affiliates and then served as the first Executive Director of the Michigan Association for Local Public Health representing Michigan's network of local public health departments where, among other projects, I participated in the development of one of the nation's first local public health accreditation programs.

Help Contribute to our Certification Exams Through an Item Writer Workshop

Do you want to help develop questions for one of our certification exams? Learn more about becoming a test item writer by attending our upcoming Item Writer Workshop this October, titled " Secrets of Competency Testing: Writing Items for Hospice and Palliative Certification Exams."  The workshop is offered three times a year as the last part of a FREE three-part course, with the first two sections being done online before the final workshop.

Created by HPCC with expert assistance from our professional testing partner PSI/ASP of Olathe, Kansas, these courses and workshop offers a unique opportunity for you to learn how to make a direct contribution to help develop our certification examinations. Individuals who have a strong knowledge base in hospice and palliative care are welcome, and expertise in item writing or test development is not required.

Find out by following the link below how you can complete the first two parts, before joining us at the next live webinar on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm ET. Those completing these three courses and the post-test and evaluation will receive 3.5 contact hours, with nursing assistants will receive a certificate of participation.
