Health Awareness in January
Throughout the month of January, we are highlighting:
- National Blood Donor Drive Month
- Cervical Health Awareness Month
- Glaucoma Awaren
These awareness months encourage us to take the time to learn more about various health causes.
| |
|
Schedule Your Donation
January is National Blood Donor Drive Month. The month of January is usually a period of critical blood shortages. People stop donating blood during the holidays and when they get sick during cold and flu season. Blood drives also get snowed out during the Winter months.
Give blood in January and be entered to win a trip for 2 to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona!
To find a blood drive near you, download the blood donor app or visit: www.redcross.org/give-blood.html

Glaucoma Awareness Month
January is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Did you know that more than 3 million people in the U.S. have Glaucoma. Glaucoma is called "the sneak thief of sight" since there are no symptoms and once vision is lost, it's permanent. At CHDC, we can do a vision screening to determine your risk factors to see if you are at high risk for glaucoma.

Are you 21 or older and have a cervix? KRISTA WANTS TO SEE YOU FOR YOUR PAP SMEAR!
The human papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for the majority of cervical cancer cases (more than 95%). The most common viral infection of the reproductive tract, HPV infects most sexually active women and men at some point in their lives.
Vaccination
The most effective and prominent weapon in the fight against cervical cancer is the HPV vaccination. Did you know the vaccination is available for boys as well as girls?
Symptoms
As per the health agency, symptoms during early-stage cervical cancer include irregular blood spotting or light bleeding between periods, postmenopausal spotting or bleeding, bleeding after sexual intercourse, and increased vaginal discharge, which can sometimes smell foul.
Screening
Vaccination is not a substitute for screening.

We wrapped up the collection for the Sharing Warmth Holiday Donation Drive for the Pottstown Beacon of Hope. Donations went to help the residents of the warming center this holiday season. We are so thankful for the generous CHDC employees and community members who donated HotHands Hand Warmers, Amazon Gift Cards, Cleaning Supplies, Coffee, Underwear, Socks, and Rain Ponchos.
We are thankful for each of our offices who rallied together to fill the donation boxes, the transportation team who collected the donations, and Gladys Rodriguez, who connected us with the Pottstown Beacon of Hope and delivered the donations. CHDC is filled with warm hearts who spread their joy to others.

Department of Human Services Warns of Possible SNAP Scams
The Department of Human Services (DHS) is warning residents of a potential scam in which people, regardless of whether they are recipients of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), receive a text regarding an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. If recipients are receiving text messages asking for personal information or information about their specific EBT benefits, it is a scam. DHS is asking recipients to contact DHS’s Fraud Tipline at 1-844-347-8477 to report the issue.
