January is Cervical Health Awareness Month. Nearly 13,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with cervical cancer each year, but the disease is preventable with vaccination and appropriate screening (Pap and HPV tests).

Birth Defects Prevention Month

Every 4.5 minutes, a baby is born with a birth defect in the US. That means nearly 120,000 babies are affected by birth defects each year.

Americans asked "Dr. Google" about HPV, hypertension, hiccups

The health questions for which Americans sought answers on Google most frequently this year were about reducing blood pressure, keto diets and stopping hiccups; questions about kidney stones and HPV also made the list.
The Hidden Drug Epidemic Among Older People

People in their 60s take an average of 15 prescription drugs a year. Combined with over-the-counter products, they may do more harm than good.
Heart Healthy Resolutions

Start the New Year with a heart-healthy resolution to lower your blood pressure (e.g., create a fitness plan, lower your sodium intake, eat more fruits and veggies, etc.)

The Mayor's Office of ThriveNYC and The New York Public Library are partnering on "Spaces to Thrive," which seeks to connect library visitors to mental health support. The program will launch at 13 branches, including Mid-Manhattan Library at 42nd Street and Bronx Library Center. Read more here .
