Greetings!
As we approach the end of summer, I want to take a moment to recognize the unwavering dedication of our 42,099 EMS professionals across the U.S. These individuals are the backbone of our emergency response system, serving our communities with courage and compassion.
Despite the challenges we face-including a chronic staffing shortage driven by reimbursement shortfalls from Medicare and other payers, and rising operational costs-our resolve remains strong. Fuel prices have climbed 34% from 2019 to 2023, medical supplies have increased by 12%, and the cost to re-chassis an ambulance has surged 25-50%. These pressures are real, but so is our commitment.
Looking ahead, I’m optimistic. Through innovation, collaboration, and continued advocacy, we are finding new ways to support our teams and strengthen our systems. Together, we will rise to meet these challenges- and build a more resilient future for EMS.
Thank you to all the EMS providers for all that you do. And I also thank the community for their continued support of our lifesaving efforts.
Warm regards,
Robert F. Mateff Sr.
Chief Executive Officer
