PARSHAT TOLDOT
Rabbi Moshe Davis
In this week’s Parashah, Toldot, we are introduced to both sides of the eternal battle between Yaakov and Eisav. Eisav, the hunter, represents the evil and falsehood in this world, while Yaakov, who sits in tents, surrounds himself in Torah and truth. Toward the end of the Parashah, Yaakov receives the prized Berachah from his father Yitzchak, but seemingly has to lie and trick his father in order to “steal” the Berachah from Eisav. How could Yaakov, the ultimate symbol of truth, as we say in our Tefillot every day - “Titein Emet LeYaakov”, act sneakily and deceitfully to cheat his brother and father?

RALLY
On Tuesday, November 14th, following a 5:45 a.m minyan, a group of our high school students, chaperones, parents, younger students and staff members boarded a plane chartered by the Detroit Jewish Federation to head to Washington, DC for the National March for Israel. Unfortunately, due to a bus driver "sick-out" where the contracted bus drivers refused to take the passengers of the plane to the rally, our Farber group, along with 250 others, were stuck on a plane on the Dulles tarmac for 8 hours. Our students were exemplary and were such a Kiddish Hashem both to Farber and to the entire Jewish community!! Though we never made it to the actual rally, there was never any doubt that Farber (and the Detroit Jewish community) stands with Israel always!! Am Yisrael Chai!

HIGH SCHOOL SHABBATON
Last weekend was the High School Shabbaton! After a morning shiur, and the opening of Quiz Bowl, the high school students headed up to Butzel. Before Shabbat, the girls chose a canvas with a word that described their feelings during the difficult time and decorated them for Shabbat which will then be brought back to the walls of Farber while other students helped Rachel and Yael, our Bnot Sherut, decorate our Shabbat space with pictures of the hostages so that we could really keep them in our thoughts. After a beautiful Shabbat of davening , singing, learning and having fun, they ended Shabbat with havdalah together and then returned to Farber for the Quiz Bowl finals and a nighttime activity!
This shabbaton could not have happened without the work of our amazing staff!! Thank you to Morah Tamar, Morah Chana, Dr. Levisohn, Morah Lisi, Mr. Wolowiec, Rabbi Kosowsky, Rabbi Davis, Shayna Davis, our Bnot Sherut- Rachel and Yael and especially to Mrs. Jacobs, Ms. Sternberg, and Mrs. Kosowsky … and of course, the final thank you to Ms. Gardin for pulling everything together and making it so beautiful, meaningful and fun!!
