RECENT EVENT RECAPS AND HIGHLIGHTS!

Third Annual DIY Menorah Event

On Saturday, December 21, Congregation Ner Tamid hosted its much-anticipated Third Annual DIY Menorah Event, bringing together families and friends for an evening of creativity, delicious food, and community spirit.

This year introduced a new menorah design, featuring Lego bricks. Participants, ranging from toddlers to adults, embraced the challenge of assembling their creations, guided by step-by-step instructions tailored for different skill levels and then adding their own stickers and decor to personalize them.

Attendees shared latkes and donuts to celebrate the upcoming Hanukkah holiday. To round out the evening, Rabbi Prass led us in a beautiful Havdalah service.

With laughter, creativity, and delicious food, this year’s DIY Menorah Event illuminated the spirit of Hanukkah and strengthened bonds within the community. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year for more building and celebration! If you have any ideas for a DIY Menorah creation for 2025, please send them to membership@mynertamid.org.

Hanukkah Friday Night Services

This past Friday, December 27, Rabbi Prass led the congregation and community through a special Hanukkah edition of Friday night services. This has been an ongoing tradition at Congregation Ner Tamid and this year was especially beautiful with two tables full of menorahs that members and those from the community brought in to light for the 3rd night of Hanukkah. After the service, there was a Hanukkah themed oneg featuring sufganiyot and donut holes.

Thank you to the Ritual Committee for their support!

Annual Menorah Lighting on Marietta Square

This year’s annual Menorah Lighting, on December 28, brought the Marietta community together for an evening filled with warmth, tradition, and festive joy. Unlike last year’s cold and rainy weather, this year’s event enjoyed milder temperatures making it a perfect setting for this cherished Hanukkah tradition.

The festivities kicked off at 6:30 PM with CNT Board Member Matt Berenson as emcee and Rabbi Prass welcoming attendees and asking that the 30-minute countdown clock to be started, leading up to the lighting ceremony scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Matt introduced the distinguished guests in attendance, including Commissioner Keli Gambrill, Councilman Joseph Goldstein, Former Councilman Philip Goldstein, Commissioner JoAnn Birrel, and Chairwoman Lisa Cupid, who each shared a few words of support for the event.

As the countdown continued, attendees feasted on free doughnuts, latkes, and hot chocolate! At the craft table, kids enjoyed a Hanukkah-themed scratch art project and other fun items like dreidels, dreidel ring pops, and glow sticks. People took fun photos in front of the Hanukkah photo backdrop with Hanukkah props to commemorate the evening.

Adults and children were invited to participate in raffles, with prizes ranging from gift cards to local Marietta Square eateries as well as a chance for five lucky children to light one of the candles being lit for the 4th night of Hanukkah.

At 7:00 pm, CNT president Julie Segal shared remarks about the congregation’s role in fostering community spirit. Rabbi Prass then recounted the story of Hanukkah before leading the lighting of the menorah. The evening ended on a high note with a gelt toss, thrilling the kids as chocolate coins rained down.

We would like to thank all of the members of CNT for their support, especially those who served on the Hanukkah Events Committee. We would also like to thank our sponsors for this year’s event: Sugar Cakes Patisserie & Bistro, Hamp & Harry’s, Australian Bakery, Willie Rae’s Social House, Marietta Pizza Company, and Warm Hugs Bakery. And finally a thank you to the attendees of this year’s event including our local dignitaries.

This year’s Menorah Lighting was a testament to the power of community, bringing together people of all ages to celebrate the light and hope of Hanukkah. Congregation Ner Tamid looks forward to welcoming everyone back in 2025 for another memorable evening. Happy Hanukkah!
