A Message from our CNT President

This past weekend was a reminder of the special gift of lifetime events and how we should not ever take them for granted.

On Friday and Saturday we celebrated the Bat Mitzvah of Raelyn Seitel. Raelyn did an outstanding job and her family beamed with joy celebrating the special occasion. It was an opportunity to catch up with former members and young adults that I had not seen in several years. I still have Mamma Mia songs stuck in my head…

On Sunday night we learned the sad news of a long time CNT member passing away who my family celebrated multiple lifetime events with at the synagogue.

When my daughter Sydney was taking Hebrew lessons and training for her Bat Mitzvah twelve years ago, she quite often carpooled with Jimmy Cyganek. The Cyganeks live five minutes away from us in Smyrna.

Either Jimmy rode with us or Sydney would ride with one of his parents to Hebrew class which at that time was on a weekday afternoon.

Later they had confirmation class together and enjoyed several youth group events together.

Jimmy’s mom, Wendy Meyer, wife of Jim Cyganek, passed away Sunday night after being ill for a few years.

Wendy was a longtime member of Congregation Ner Tamid and an active member of our Board for several years. She was instrumental for publishing Chai Lights, back then on a weekly basis, and designed much of the marketing materials for our synagogue as well. She had a feisty and bold personality, could talk your ears off and exhibited a serious love for hats.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Cyganek/Meyer family.

Let’s enjoy the special occasions, build the memories, and never take them for granted.

With a focus on Community,

Matt Berenson

President, Congregation Ner Tamid

Mazel Tov to Raelyn!

At services Friday Raelyn co-led Shabbat services, then on Saturday became a bat mitzvah. She chanted beautifully, and we are all so proud of her!
