Funds, Food and Volunteers Needed
for Dorothy Day House!
From TBC Social Action: For the past three weeks, we have been serving grab-and-go sandwich bags (containing two sandwiches, fruit, cookies, snacks and a water bottle) from the door of the kitchen from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. We also deliver 30 bags to the people who are sheltered at the Super 8 motel.

Recently the number of people appearing at the door has increased significantly. Given the economic pressures many people are under and resulting food insecurity, it is likely that this number may increase further. This means we will need more donations.
As of 4/21, we need bottled water, fruit (apples and bananas), cookies and snacks. Of these, bottled water is our greatest need but of course we need sandwiches every day. Since sandwiches have a shorter shelf life than bottled water or cookies, Lynn Taborsak has been scheduling sandwich donations so we have just the right amount each day. If you are interested in making sandwiches,  please send her an email at  ddhhsandwiches@gmail.com.

Our need for afternoon volunteers (from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm) is also increasing. We were adequately staffed with two people a day, but now we will require a third person. If you are 60 or under and available, please let me know.
Per the governor's order, everyone is supposed to be wearing masks when outside in public places. We recently received a large donation of masks which should cover our volunteer needs for the immediate future.   However, many of our guests are not wearing masks and some have asked for them. If you have extra commercial masks or can make homemade masks, please bring them down so we can distribute them to the guests.
Since we are likely not to need non-perishable food donations (ex soup) for a while, we are directing people to the Daily Bread Food Pantry (25 West St - entrance off Terrace Place). Donations are accepted on Mondays between 11am and 2pm and Friday between 8:30am and 11:30am.

I am posting updates on what we need each day on our website at

so please check the website to stay current on our needs. I am also updating the voicemail message on our phone at 203-743-7988.

Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques at TBC

As the secular year begins, we know that many of us are thinking of loved ones who have passed away, and we invite you to use this moment of transition, of remembering and looking forward, to commemorate the lives and blessings of your loved ones with a memorial plaque. Please see this announcement from Rabbi Bearman and President Baulsir for more information .

Additionally, we would like to invite the entire community to a SPECIAL SERVICE OF DEDICATION on MAY 15, 2020. If you have any questions, please call TBC's main office (203-544-8695). We would be happy to help you in any way that we can.
