COVID-19 Protocols

TBC's building is currently closed for all in person events, including services, meetings and religious school until January 29. During this period, we will continue to evaluate COVID infection rates and make any necessary adjustments. All events will take place remotely via Zoom.

Once we are back in person, we will require proof of full vaccination* for anyone entering the building. Proof of vaccination in the form of a photo or scanned copy of your vaccination card should be sent to Denise in the Temple office at officeadmin@templebnaichaim.org ASAP.

*Full vaccination is defined as follows:

Age 18 and older, two Pfizer/Moderna vaccines plus booster six months after second vaccine; or one J&J vaccine plus booster 2 months after J&J vaccine
Age 12 to 17, two vaccines
Age 5 to 11, two vaccines
The only exception is if an individual is medically unable to get vaccinated. In that case, a doctor’s note will be required.

Most synagogues in our area have adopted similar protocols. Like us, their primary objective is to ensure the health and safety of our communities.

Once we return to in-person, masks will continue to be required at all indoor in-person events. In light of the most recent CDC guidance, masks must be either a surgical mask, N95, KN-95, KF-94 (all without front valves or openings), doubled-up 3 ply masks, or a doubled-up 3 ply and cloth mask. Experts have advised that cloth masks alone do not provide sufficient protection against the Omicron variant. KN-95 masks are available in child sizes.

We will continue to watch the infection rate closely and will keep you apprised of any changes. We thank you for your cooperation.

With COVID infection rates on a steep decline, we will be resuming in-person Shabbat services on Friday, February 11 with a Zoom option.

RELIGIOUS SCHOOL TZEDAKKAH

As part of learning the Jewish value of giving to charity and supporting social justice, our Religious School students raised the following for Tzedakkah during the Fall 2021 semester:

K/1 raised $14.31 for Toys for Tots.
2/3 raised $24.70 for Animals in Distress Wilton.
4/5 raised $52.67 for Global Green USA.
6/7 raised $26.17 that was split evenly between Team Seas and Feeding America.

Torah Study

Our focus for the coming weeks will be Pirkei Avot, commonly translated as, the “Chapters of the Fathers” or “Ethics of the Fathers.”

For our study, we are using, Pirkei Avot: A Social Justice Commentary by Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yanklowitz. The book is available to purchase from the CCAR Press Click here or from Amazon Click here.

Through the lens of his own story, Yiddish teacher, translator and librarian, David Forman will discuss what was lost in American Jewish life with the decline of Yiddish, and what we might gain from reengaging with the Yiddish language and culture. Have You Ever Wanted To Learn How to Lead a Friday Night Service???

We are in need of several volunteers who would like to work with Cantor Harriet to learn how to lead a Friday night Shabbat Service! Prior experience with Hebrew or service leading is not required!

Families and friends are encouraged to learn and lead together. Practice services with the Cantor are part of the training!! Contact Cantor Harriet for more information.

Interpersonal laws ranging from the treatment of slaves to the exhibition of kindness to strangers are listed. (21:1-23:9)
Cultic laws follow, including the commandment to observe the Sabbatical Year, a repetition of the Sabbath injunction, the first mention of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals, rules of sacrificial offerings, and the prohibition against boiling a kid in its mother's milk. (23:10-19)

PANTRY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Daily Bread Food Pantry in Danbury is looking for several caring, strong volunteers to commit to a regular gig helping our team of good-natured heavy-lifters to off-load the food bank truck. The truck brings hundreds of pounds of food twice-weekly to DBFP’s doorstep.

Volunteers are urgently needed: Mondays 9:00 am – 10:30 am OR Wednesdays 9:00 am – 10:30 am…of course we would not turn away anyone who wants to work both days!

This role has become increasingly important since the pantry’s customer base has ballooned during COVID. As a team member you will become an integral part of our dedicated, growing ranks of volunteers and will make a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.
