Shabbat Services - NEW start time!
Except for family services, shabbat services from this week forward will now start at 7:30 pm instead of 7:00 pm.
Family services will continue to begin at 6:30 pm, generally on the first Friday of each month

Have You Ever Wanted To Learn How to Lead a Friday Night Service???
We are in need of several volunteers who would like to work with Cantor Harriet to learn how to lead a Friday night Shabbat Service! Prior experience with Hebrew or service leading is not required!

Torah Study
This year we are taking a break from regular Torah study and diving into the Tanakh to see what scholars have been debating for millennia. New participants are welcome! You don't have to have any knowledge of the texts to participate and hopefully will bring new insights as to what has or hasn't changed since ancient times, and how it relates to our lives today.

The Israeli-Palestinian Dilemma:
Moving Beyond Who's Right and Who's Wrong
October 31 at 12:00 Noon
On three consecutive Sundays in October Temple Rodef Shalom, the largest Reform congregation in Virginia, will be hosting a major, nationwide virtual symposium, The Israeli-Palestinian Dilemma: Moving Beyond Who’s Right and Who’s Wrong, that is different from anything that has gone before. The Symposium dates are October 17, 24, and 31 beginning at noon Eastern Time.
"What makes our symposium both unique and uniquely important is that we are are coupling a deep dive by experts representing both Israeli and Palestinian perspectives into the history, present day 'Facts on the Ground', and thoughts on the future with an opening keynote featuring our Senior Rabbi, Amy Schwartzman, Executive Director of ARZA Josh Weinberg and MK Rabbi Gilad Kariv. Our closing keynote is Rabbi Donniel Hartman of the Shalom Hartman Institute. You will also have a chance to hear from everyday Israelis and Palestinians and organizations pursuing change."
The symposium will be live-streamed to registrants and almost all sessions will be recorded and available 24/7 for 30 days after the event. There will also be a breakout room at the end of each day for your congregation to meet with your own moderator to discuss the day's topics.

9:30 am -Social Hall: Join our own Bonnie Heft, a 300-Hour Yoga Instructor, for a Sample Half Hour of Embodyoga and Mindful Yoga Therapy. Get grounded, breathe, and allow energy to flow through your body. Please bring a yoga mat and a mask.
10:00 - 11:30 am: TBC Courtyard: Enjoy a hearty brunch, renew friendships, greet new Temple and Sisterhood Members, meet special guests from the Executive Board of Women of Reform Judaism, bid on items at our popular Silent Auction. Goody bags for all!
This event is free to our members and prospective members.

On Sunday 10/17 TBC Teens had a marvelous time apple picking at Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel! We enjoyed a picnic lunch and learned all about the symbol of the apple in Judaism, including its mystical significance!!
Please join us THIS Sunday 10/31 for our next TBC Teens/TBC Youth Group Event: Halloween - What’s Jewish About That?! Lunch, candy and entertainment will be provided! Anyone in 8th-12th grade are welcome. Bring a friend!!

New TBC Film Club

The TBC Book Group has made the decision to transform into a TBC Film Club. We feel that this may appeal to more TBC congregants. Our selection of films will come from an online streaming platform called Chai Flicks, which can be found at www.chaiflicks.com and which offers Israeli movies and documentaries. There is a small monthly charge of $5.99.
Our first meeting will be on Thursday, November 18 at 7:30 pm via Zoom. Each month a different member will choose a movie (I will choose the first movie), and I will send out an email with the name of the movie to all interested TBC members.

- Abraham purchases the cave of Machpelah in order to bury his wife Sarah. (23:1-20)
- Abraham sends his servant to find a bride for Isaac. (24:1-9)
- Rebekah shows her kindness by offering to draw water for the servant's camels at the well. (24:15-20)
- The servant meets Rebekah's family and then takes Rebekah to Isaac, who marries her. (24:23-67)

Abraham takes another wife, named Keturah. At the age of one hundred and seventy-five years, Abraham dies, and Isaac and Ishmael bury him in the cave of Machpelah. (25:1-11) Click here to learn more.

COVID-19 Protocols - Masks Required
TBC now requires anyone entering our building for any reason to wear a mask - regardless of vaccination status. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and remain on while in the building. The only exception to the mask requirement will be for fully vaccinated staff and clergy while in their offices and for clergy (not lay leaders) on the bimah.
We will continue to watch the infection rate closely and will keep you apprised of any changes. We thank you for your cooperation.
