Sukkot Celebration and Open House
On Sunday September 26th TBC Religious School officially began our year with a grand Sukkot Celebration followed by a Community Open House. Our students and teachers enjoyed a wonderful morning of learning and shaking the Lulav in the Sukkah before being joined by our wider TBC family and other friends interested in learning more and joining our community. A marvelous time was had by all, highlighted by Sukkah decoration making, lively conversation and “Pizza in the Hut!” Thank you to members of our Education Committee, Membership Team and Parent Volunteers for helping to make this event a joyful success!!

Simchat Torah Celebration
This year TBC’s Simchat Torah celebration coincided with our first day of Hebrew School on Wednesday September 29th. After an hour of Hebrew learning, our students joined their parents, teachers and members of our community for a lively parade, dancing with Torah and fun facts about the holiday. We capped off the celebration with Cantor chanting the last verses of D’varim (Deuteronomy) and the first verse of B’reishit (Genesis). Many thanks to our Hebrew School teachers who had the honor of the Aliyah and to David Abraham for lifting the Torah and holding it during our parade!

Consecration
This past Friday evening at our Family Service we had the honor of Consecrating our youngest learners (Kindergarten) and all those students new to our TBC community! We have had so many families join us over the past several months; it was an absolute delight to welcome 20 children and bless them as part of our community. Consecration is a special moment that marks the official beginning of a young Jewish child’s formal Study of Torah and allows the community to honor and publicly acknowledge them. Mazal Tov to all our Consecrants and their families!!

Torah Study
For the rest of this year, and maybe more, we will be taking a break from Torah. We look forward to welcoming new participants who want to take a deeper dive into the texts and see what scholars have been debating for millennia. You don't have to have any knowledge of the books to participate and hopefully will take in new insights as to what has or hasn't changed since ancient times and how it relates to our lives today.

The Israeli-Palestinian Dilemma:
Moving Beyond Who's Right and Who's Wrong
October 17, 24 and 31 at Noon
On three consecutive Sundays in October Temple Rodef Shalom, the largest Reform congregation in Virginia, will be hosting a major, nationwide virtual symposium, The Israeli-Palestinian Dilemma: Moving Beyond Who’s Right and Who’s Wrong, that is different from anything that has gone before. The Symposium dates are October 17, 24, and 31 beginning at noon Eastern Time.
"What makes our symposium both unique and uniquely important is that we are are coupling a deep dive by experts representing both Israeli and Palestinian perspectives into the history, present day 'Facts on the Ground', and thoughts on the future with an opening keynote featuring our Senior Rabbi, Amy Schwartzman, Executive Director of ARZA Josh Weinberg and MK Rabbi Gilad Kariv. Our closing keynote is Rabbi Donniel Hartman of the Shalom Hartman Institute. You will also have a chance to hear from everyday Israelis and Palestinians and organizations pursuing change."
The symposium will be live-streamed to registrants and almost all sessions will be recorded and available 24/7 for 30 days after the event. We also are providing a breakout room at the end of each day for your congregation to meet with your own moderator to discuss the day's topics.

Wi-ACT's Rise Against Hunger Meal-Packaging Event Day

We are excited that Wi-ACT is able to be holding its Meal-Packaging Event once again! Help the Wilton Interfaith Action Committee (WI-ACT) feed many malnourished children for an entire year wherever in the world the need is greatest. The packaging will be done at the WEPCO Church Complex at 36 New Canaan Road.
Please be aware that, for COVID safety precaution reasons, the Event this year needs to be about half the size of prior year's events in terms of the number of volunteers on each shift. Please don't let that discourage you from volunteering if there's space on the shift you select when you sign up, but also please don't be disappointed if your desire to serve can't be accommodated this year. If that should happen, we hope that you will volunteer again in future years when hopefully COVID safeguards will no longer be necessary.
To insure safety for everyone, please note these specific COVID protocols for the Event: All volunteers must be fully vaccinated and bring to the Event vaccination cards AND evidence of negative PCR test results within 72 hours before Oct. 23rd. Everyone will wear masks, the number of volunteers in each workspace (there will be three packaging floors this year, not just one) will be limited to 25 to 30, and the workspaces will be fully sanitized between shifts. Children under 12 unfortunately cannot volunteer this year; we will really miss them and are looking forward to their return to the work next year.
Be sure to get your PCR test done (available at Wilton CVS, among other pharmacy locations) by Wednesday Oct 20th so that you have the results back in time.

It's too easy for parents to feel at a loss for how to equip their child to deal with it all in a healthy way.

- God decides to cause a flood that will destroy the world, sparing only Noah's family and the animals that Noah gathers together on the ark. (6:9-8:22)
- Life starts over again after the Flood. The Noahide Commandments are listed, and God uses a rainbow to make a symbol of the first covenant. (9:1-17)
- People start to build a city and the Tower of Babel. God scatters the people and gives them different languages to speak. (11:1-9)

COVID-19 Protocols - Masks Required
TBC now requires anyone entering our building for any reason to wear a mask - regardless of vaccination status. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and remain on while in the building. The only exception to the mask requirement will be for fully vaccinated staff and clergy while in their offices and for clergy (not lay leaders) on the bimah.
We will continue to watch the infection rate closely and will keep you apprised of any changes. We thank you for your cooperation.
