Wi-ACT’s Rise Against Hunger

Meal-Packaging Event

Saturday, October 22

Wi-ACT’s Rise Against Hunger meal-packaging event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22^nd at the WEPCO Church Complex, 36 New Canaan Road, Wilton. TBC’s on-line registration site for this event is https://signup.com/go/uKfAEQw

The meal-packaging work is in 90-minute shifts; so just go on the site and choose your shift, beginning at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, or 3 pm. Children as young as 7 can participate, and intergenerational family groups are welcome and very much encouraged.

We all know how joyous and uplifting the experience is as we package meals to serve hundreds of children in some of the most food-deprived circumstances in the world. Last year our meals went to Haiti. This year, we hope to package 50% more meals than last year, and if we do, we can feed 300 children for an entire year. UPDATE ON: TBC's Action Agenda for 2022-2023

TBC's: A Year of Healing and Repair - A Time for Action! 

All the votes and expressions of interest are now in for TBC's "Year of Healing and Repair - A Time for Action" initiative. Once tallied, the top 3 areas that emerge will become our Social Action Impact Target Areas for this year. Next steps: TBC's social action committee and planning group will be reaching out to form three small working groups that will develop the action agendas for this year. Initial agenda items can include:

• educating ourselves, to develop a common understanding of the selected task area and possible scope of action
• inviting others from local synagogues, Jewish organizations, or domain experts, to participate/contribute

After that, action plans, concrete schedules and broader congregational outreach can follow.

Baxter Barenberg's Bar Mitzvah Project!

"I am going to be doing my mitzvah project with an organization called DIG USA. DIG stands for Determination, Integrity, Growth. It’s an organization that I've been involved with since I was 7 years old - that is almost half my life! It started with one coach/ owner named Dan, who has created this organization to help the underserved communities in CT learn to play both chess and soccer, creating both sports and educational opportunities. After one of my first chess lessons my Mom told me I had just helped give a free lesson to a less fortunate kid in a town like Bridgeport. DIG works on the lesson for lesson model, providing free lessons for every paid lesson, creating opportunities for all. 

For my mitzvah project, I'm going to be raising money and gear for the Bridgeport United Girls Team, which is run by DIG. It is a free program open to the girls of Bridgeport. They need new uniforms and all gear. Contributions will accepted through 10/22/22, the date of my bar mitzvah."
