Handmade Kippot from Uganda

From Cantor Harriet: "I have received 90 gorgeous handmade kippot from the Luka Jewish Community in Mbale, Uganda! The community is struggling and in need of support to purchase food after suffering severe drought this summer followed by devastating floods. Up to 75 families in the village are only able to afford 1 meal a day. They are also in need of prayer books, specifically High Holiday Machzorim of which TBC has about 200 that are no longer in use.

"Please purchase one or more of these lovely kippot for $18 a piece so that we can use the proceeds to ship 100 Machzorim to the community and send the balance of the proceeds to purchase food! Additional donations are welcome through the TBC Social Action Fund on the TBC Donation Page with a note indicating Ugandan Jewry as the recipient."

TIME FOR ACTION - Actions Accomplished!

On Sunday 11/27 Pam Klem, Michele and Judson Scruton and some members of the extended Busch-Davis family spent the afternoon writing letters to remind voters in Georgia why it's important to vote and what's at stake in the upcoming run-off election for Senator. ("VoteForward" is the group who coordinated this letter-writing campaign.)

Dorothy Day Hospitality House

Danbury Soup Kitchen

On the first Wednesday of each month, TBC volunteers help out for an afternoon at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House (aka Danbury Soup Kitchen). Up to 80 hot meals and lunches are served ‘grab and go’ to all who come to the door, with no questions asked. We also provide 60 meals, lunches and snacks for the Pacific House, the Danbury Homeless Shelter. The Dorothy Day Hospitality House is based on the “Houses of Hospitality” movement founded by Dorothy Day during the Great Depression and is not formally affiliated with any religious organization.
