Mitzvah Message from Sasha Sondheimer

Hello! For my mitzvah project I am doing a book drive for the Norwalk and Danbury hospitals. I was born at Norwalk Hospital and have been collecting toys for their pediatric unit since my first birthday. This collection has even more meaning as I get older. I find reading to be healing and want to share that with people who aren’t feeling their best. The hospitals are requesting new books for kids and adults.

Importantly, most book drives accept used books but because of health and safety precautions, these donated books must be NEW. So go out, buy a copy of your favorite book, and bring it to TBC to donate to the hospitals! I highly recommend buying a new book (or two!) from Books on the Common on Main Street in Ridgefield. It is a great independent book store.

I have already run one new book drive at my school’s Fall book fair and am excited to keep this tradition going beyond my bat mitzvah. Thank you for participating in helping to heal the world.

Sasha Sondheimer (Bat Mitzvah this Saturday!)

New TBC Religious School Resource Guide: Navigating the War in Israel

This new set of resources, assembled by Ellie Gluck and Cantor Harriet, Includes links to a variety of resources for talking with children and youth about what's happening in Israel. There is information from the Federation, URJ, UNPKD (Jewish Unpacked) and others, as well as opportunities to volunteer and guidance on how best to donate to help Israel. Click here to view.

Join the Jewish Federation of Greater Fairfield County, Community Synagogues, and Jewish organizations from across the country as we MARCH FOR ISRAEL at the National Mall in Washington DC.

We’ve all heard voices of hatred and antisemitism around the globe glorifying the October 7 attacks. But these voices will never drown out those of Americans who stand against terror and with Israel. Now it’s time to raise your voice: to defeat antisemitism, to demand freedom for the hostages, and to demonstrate that America Stands with Israel.

MARCH FOR ISRAEL

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14

Adult Hebrew Class in Session - Last Chance to Join!

From Ellie Gluck: Our new adult Hebrew class met for their first session last month! We had a fabulous time learning our first Hebrew root word ש-ב-ת which means "rest." We learned each Hebrew letter that makes up this root word and practiced reading and writing them! If anyone wants to join in on the fun, please contact Morah Ellie at morahellie@templebnaichaim.org and she can catch you up in time for the next class on November 19.

Join us on Friday, November 17th at 5:30 PM for a pasta and salad, dinner, a special Shabbat service and delicious desserts as we welcome our newest families to our community. This wonderful evening also celebrates new students who take part in our Consecration ceremony and receive a personal Torah.

Needed now more than ever ... an evening of family warmth, spiritual renewal and the great tradition of gifting the Torah to the next generation. Click here to RSVP

Israeli Cooking Class, Nov. 18!

Open to teens in grades 8-12. ($10 per participant)

RSVP here!

Our 6th & 7th Grade Teacher, Morah Rica, owns a hair salon that has partnered with Wigs & Wishes to provide those who are losing their hair due to a cancer battle with free wigs. Morah Rica owns Yaffa Beauty by Rica, where she consults with cancer fighters to select a wig, and once it arrives, she styles it to suit, and will shave their hair (should they wish) in a way to make it a positive-as-possible and empowering experience. Along with the wig, she will often give a small care package, many of which we helped assemble last year.

Sadly, the demand for wigs has not slowed down, and Morah Rica is in need of more care packages, so this year, the TBC Religious School is going to collect the necessities, as well as send notes, for these brave men and women to bring them some refuah shleimah.

Please see the list of items needed here and leave them in the bin at TBC.

It is traditional to light a memorial candle at home on the eve of the yahrzeit. You may also find it meaningful while kindling the yahrzeit candle to offer prayers of remembrance or reflect on your loved one’s life. Many also choose this time to make monetary donations in memory of loved ones

Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques

When remembering loved ones who have passed away, we invite you to commemorate their lives and blessings with a memorial plaque for the TBC wall of remembrance. Ordering information is available here.

A reminder that the Federation for Jewish Philanthropy of Upper Fairfield County schedules a variety of programs that TBC members will find interesting.
