CHAILITES

December 6, 2023

From Cantor Harriet: "There is a law about Chanukah I find moving and profound. Our great Sage, Rambam, writes that 'the command of Chanukah lights is very precious. One who lacks the money to buy lights should sell something, or if necessary, borrow money, so you can fulfil the mitzvah.' The question then arises ..." More

Meet and Greet all our Members and Help us Plan for 2024!

Sisterhood is TBC’s vibrant women’s group, connecting our members with each other, all the activities of our synagogue, our home communities, and the strong advocacy of Women of Reform Judaism. We provide the community break-fast after Yom Kippur (your contributions to our Honey fundraiser help support this), sponsor celebrations at the Religious School, and provide Jewish gifts for our B’nai Mitzvah students. We host an annual Tu B’Shevat Seder, and the proceeds from our Shalach Manot Fundraiser provide direct funding for TBC projects. We support social action projects in each of our communities and sponsor and support spiritual events for our members and their guests.

A portion of Sisterhood dues supports Women of Reform Judaism’s “YES” fund, providing scholarship opportunities for youth, rabbis, and cantors, and programs for all our members.

There is no charge for our Chanukah Membership Dinner but

Please bring a wrapped gift worth approximately $20 for the exchange.

RSVP by Tuesday, December 5 - click here or email sisterhood@templebnaichaim.org.

You can make a difference! Your generosity will help Danbury residents who need help to stay warm this winter. The Dorothy Day Hospitality House has been providing meals and shelter to individuals since 1982. DDHH will distribute hats and gloves and mittens to guests who need them to get through the bitter Connecticut winter.

Our 6th & 7th Grade Teacher, Morah Rica, owns a hair salon that has partnered with Wigs & Wishes to provide those who are losing their hair due to a cancer battle with free wigs. Morah Rica owns Yaffa Beauty by Rica, where she consults with cancer fighters to select a wig, and once it arrives, she styles it to suit, and will shave their hair (should they wish) in a way to make it a positive-as-possible and empowering experience. Along with the wig, she will often give a small care package, many of which we helped assemble last year.

Sadly, the demand for wigs has not slowed down, and Morah Rica is in need of more care packages, so this year, the TBC Religious School is going to collect the necessities, as well as send notes, for these brave men and women to bring them some refuah shleimah.

Please see the list of items needed here and leave them in the bin at TBC.

It is traditional to light a memorial candle at home on the eve of the yahrzeit. You may also find it meaningful while kindling the yahrzeit candle to offer prayers of remembrance or reflect on your loved one’s life. Many also choose this time to make monetary donations in memory of loved ones

Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques

When remembering loved ones who have passed away, we invite you to commemorate their lives and blessings with a memorial plaque for the TBC wall of remembrance. Ordering information is available here.

A reminder that the Federation for Jewish Philanthropy of Upper Fairfield County schedules a variety of programs that TBC members will find interesting.
