Selichot Experience at TBC - Saturday, September 9, 7:30 pm

With Cantor Lilah Sugarman and Cantor Harriet Dunkerley

About Selichot: "Selichot, prayers for forgiveness, are ancient prayers already mentioned in the Mishnah. They originated as prayers for fast days. The Mishnah describes public fast days and the order of prayer for such occasions as featuring a series of exhortations that end with the words “He will answer us,” recalling the times in Jewish history when God answered those who called upon Him.

"The tradition of reciting Selichot throughout Elul, the month preceding Rosh Hashanah, may stem from the fact that it was customary to fast six days before Rosh Hashanah. Since the Selichot originated as prayers for fast days, it followed naturally that they would be recited at this time." https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/selichot-prayers-of-repentance/

Last Sunday's Community-Wide Softball Game!

Sunday’s Annual Community-Wide Softball Game at Jensen Field was a lot of fun for those who attended! A few of our TBC families gathered to take advantage of the beautiful weather and play a little softball!

Everyone enjoyed a bagel nosh, and we raised $36 for Ridgefield Little League through our raffle! Congratulations to the Sondheimer family for winning the raffle prize, a $100 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods!

Wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui have devastated communities on the sland. According to news reports, the fires have caused at least 100 deaths, have wiped out the historic city of Lahaina, and destroyed people’s homes.

Not only does Maui’s community need our help, but many people are fleeing to Honolulu where Jewish communal organizations will receive many requests for support.

The Jewish community in Hawaii is led by a number of synagogues, Chabad, and the Jewish Community Services of Hawaii.

A Simcha! In August Elijah Busch, son of congregants Jeffrey Busch and Stephen Davis, completed a challenging 4,000 mile oceanographic research voyage from Hawaii to the Fiji Islands as part of a Sea Education Association program for "Protecting the Phoenix Islands." After 4 weeks of training and studying at Woods Hole, students spent 5 weeks at sea, crewing and navigating the SSV Robert Seamans, a 134-foot steel brigantine, while they also studied and conducted research projects. Since there was no email or texting available for students while on shipboard, it was all a little anxiety-provoking for the parents. Eli and the other students were, however, able to upload some fun blogs postings here. Eli finally made it home hale and hearty. and his return was a celebrated as a great simcha!

Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques
