In God’s kingdom, we have a chain of command. It is established in heaven, in the family, government, church and the work place. Whether we are in a position of leadership or as subordinates, there is a hierarchy of authority with God almighty at the top. Our lives are better when we follow God’s chain of command.
1 Peter 2:13-17
“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor”.
The Constitution of the United States is pretty specific who’s in charge of what in the governmental hierarchy. As far as the military goes, the President of the United States is Commander in Chief. The President has full authority until his term expires, is removed from office or dies. There is a most strict chain of command in the military. All members of the military must memorize the chain of command and strictly adhere to it.
Authors Bob Woodward and Robert Costa recently published a book that alleges that General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, may have violated the chain of command and possibly committed treason. Woodward and Costa tell of Milley collaborating with China by telling the China’s highest ranking general that “We won’t surprise attack you, I will warn you in case we attack”. The allegations’ state that Milley also attempted to limit then President Trump’s ability to order a military strike by instructing the highest ranking military leaders to not follow the President’s orders unless he was involved. That’s after Milley colluded with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with this scheme to undermine the President of the United States ability to wage war.
This all sounds like a third world coup, doesn’t it? Even if a person has what they think is a good reason to break the rules, they shouldn’t. Let’s look at 1 Samuel 24 where King Saul is perusing David to kill him. David had the opportunity to kill Saul when David was in a cave and Saul came within his reach, allowing him to cut off a piece of Saul’s robe. Even under great duress, David respected Saul’s anointment from God and spared his life.
We as Biblical Citizens must always work within the political system. God’s finger guided our founding fathers when they wrote the Constitution of the United States. We have the sacred ability to dispose of bad leaders and rise Godly ones by exercising the right to vote. This is why voter integrity is so important. In America, “we the people” are on the top of the chain of command. All power our elected officials have comes from consent of the governed. We are the ones who drive the political vehicle, let’s not be asleep at the wheel.
