Chain of Lakes Middle School Community Brief
Monday, February 11, 2019

We are about halfway into the third quarter of the school year. Our teachers have been working hard to prepare and our students are showing progress. We want to lead them to success. Here's how you can help: make sure children get enough sleep the night before a test; eat a healthy breakfast; and arrive on time to school. Most importantly, stay positive. Let's encourage our students to do their best on the tests. You can visit our Parents page at for more information.

As a parent, you can also help out our school by completing our Annual Parent Survey. Our parents are one of our greatest resources to the success of our school. In an effort to improve school practices, Chain of Lakes Middle School is conducting a Parent Survey as a part of our ongoing improvement plan. Please take a moment and click the link below to take this year's survey . . .

Please be assured that your responses will be anonymous and your opinion is appreciated.
Don't forget to regularly visit to get more information concerning all things Chain of Lakes Middle School.

Here are the highlights for this week. I hope you enjoy and thank you for your continued support.

Chain of Lakes Fine Arts

The fine arts department is welcoming band, chorus, and orchestra middle school students from Fulton County, Georgia who are in town touring Central Florida. They will be performing for thousands of guests at a local theme park and wanted to have a practice performance while making new friends in Florida.

The Fulton County Band, Chorus, and Orchestra will each play a song and then our own Chamber Orchestra will perform to show our guest a representation of the performing arts here at the Chain!

Chain of Lakes - Digital Moment

All schools with in OCPS, utilize a program called LanSchool to monitor students' computer use while on campus. Teachers are able to see as soon as a student logs into their computer everything the student types, searching and exactly what is on their screen. This is a great tool for our teachers to make sure students stay on task and are good digital citizens.

* Students should also remember that deleting programs like LanSchool off their laptop is a violation of the Digital Acceptable Use Policy and could result in students receiving a consequence.

Chain of Lakes By the Numbers

Parents and students should be checking ProgressBook DAILY, to keep track of student attendance and achievement. If you are not sure how to log in to your child's ProgressBook, please call your grade level office and they will be sure to assist you.

Understanding the table: The parent logins and student logins refer to the number of parents and students using ProgressBook each month. These figures do not count the number of times each parent or student actually used the system. However, the total logins and the student total logins figures do include every instance the system was used. For example, in January 333 COLMS parents logged in to ProgressBook for a total of 7,511 opens. Is the 333 parent count a good number? That depends on how you look at it. COLMS has an enrollment of 1,300 students.
