Happy Monday, Democrats!

Here in Florida, we’re gearing up for an exciting summer of community and coalition building. Next week we're proud to be partnering with Senator LaVon Bracy Davis and Representative RaShon Young to bring to life Voices of Freedom: A Juneteenth event, honoring the lasting legacy of Senator Geraldine Thompson in Central Florida.

You can find more information on that event below. Also, be sure to sign up for our next statewide weekend of action and read below for more information on Leadership Blue.

We’re just 148 days away from the General Election. Now is when we need to start getting fired up and building the army of volunteers who will work alongside us to shift Florida for the better!

Voices of Freedom: Juneteenth Event

The late Senator Geraldine Thompson was the matriarch of Juneteenth celebrations in Central Florida. Her events were more than festivals, they were history lessons, community gatherings, and powerful expressions of the importance of preserving Black history.

In honor of Senator Thompson’s legacy of leadership and the annual celebration of Juneteenth, the Florida Democratic Party has partnered with Senator LaVon Bracy Davis and Representative RaShon Young to present Voices of Freedom: A Juneteenth Celebration.

This event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, marking the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free.

Field Updates

Join the Florida Democratic Party for our next Statewide Weekend of Action on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14. Host a canvass, phonebank, or both.

With the August and November elections only a matter of months away, this is an opportunity to get out in the community, talk with Democrats at the door, gather together for phonebanks, and help voters get vote-ready.

Property Taxes

  • Short Message: Floridians are working harder than ever during an affordability crisis & need practical solutions that lower costs for everyone. But eliminating property taxes just shifts costs onto small businesses & renters through new taxes or fees so we all pay more for our local services.
  • Full Message: Floridians are working harder than ever during an affordability crisis but eliminating property taxes for homeowners won’t solve the problem. Shifting costs onto small businesses and renters through new taxes or fees means we all pay more for our local services. We need practical solutions like capping insurance rate hikes and taxing insurance corporations’ excess profits that lower costs for all working families and seniors.

Fees

  • Short Message: Hardworking families and seniors deserve real solutions to the affordability crisis, but eliminating property taxes just saddles us with higher costs while handing big profits to corporations for services that are currently public, affordable, and working for us.
  • Full Message: Local services that our communities depend on like public hospitals and health services, first responders, disaster relief, and schools, rely on property taxes. So what happens if property taxes are eliminated? We’ll be forced to turn to private corporations for basic necessities or have to pay new fees to the government that jack up our everyday costs. That’s not real savings. Hardworking families and seniors deserve real solutions to the affordability crisis, but eliminating property taxes just saddles us with higher costs while handing big profits to corporations for services that are currently public, affordable, and working for us.

Americans Are Paying More For Less in Trump’s Economy

  • Trump’s economy remains in freefall as Americans pay more for gas, groceries, and basic goods.
  • U.S.-based employers cut 97,000 jobs in May, the highest for any May since the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Wage growth is at a four-year low and well behind inflation, which has risen to the highest level in three years.
  • The average price of gas has climbed to $4.16 per gallon, and the average U.S. household has spent an additional $450 on energy costs due to Trump’s chaos with Iran.
  • Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump’s job performance, with one new poll last week showing Trump’s approval hitting a record low.
  • Two-thirds of the country say it is headed in the wrong direction, and over 40% said they are worse off financially today than they were one year ago.
