What an incredible weekend! It was an absolute joy to spend time with so many of you this past weekend at Leadership Blue! Because of you, we sold out Leadership Blue and had our biggest year yet — over 1,000 attendees came together to learn, organize, and move the party forward. After flipping over 30 seats in the last 18 months, building a 150,000+ vote by mail lead, and investing in every corner of this state, momentum is on our side. 

As we get closer Election Day, Representative Frost’s words from the gala ring true; The next chapter of Florida won’t be written by the naysayers, it will be written by those of us that continue to show up every day to build this party by knocking doors, hosting town halls, and calling our neighbors to make sure they are all informed and ready to vote for real change in this state.

Let’s continue to build on the good work of the last year and continue to push the pendulum in Florida towards progress

Field Updates

Over the past week, Florida Democrats made 53,767 voter contact attempts and had 4,953 conversations with voters.

Our field team spent Leadership Blue helping candidates, volunteer leaders, and local organizers sharpen the skills they will need to build strong programs in August, November, and beyond. I led trainings on field strategy for candidates and volunteer organizing for local leaders and moderated a conversation on winning in battleground districts.

Thank you to State Representative Emily Gregory; Miami-Dade DEC Chair Laura Kelley; Richard Lamondin, candidate for State Senate District 38; and Sonya Stevenson, President of the Orange County Democratic Black Caucus, for joining our battleground panel.

One moment captured what the weekend was all about. As Sonya discussed her caucus’s approach to voter contact, members of her team were out knocking nearly 400 doors. That is what year-round organizing looks like: we were not just talking about the work—it was happening in real time.

Now, our team is carrying that momentum into the upcoming 3 Weeks to Win Weekend of Action. Democrats across Florida will host canvasses and phonebanks to reach the voters who will decide the August 18 elections, recruit new volunteers, and continue building the local teams we need to win.

• Short Message: Floridians are working harder than ever during an affordability crisis & need practical solutions that lower costs for everyone. 
• But eliminating property taxes just shifts costs onto small businesses & renters through new taxes or fees so we all pay more for our local services.
• Full Message: Floridians are working harder than ever during an affordability crisis but eliminating property taxes for homeowners won’t solve the problem. 
• Shifting costs onto small businesses and renters through new taxes or fees means we all pay more for our local services. 
• We need practical solutions like capping insurance rate hikes and taxing insurance corporations’ excess profits that lower costs for all working families and seniors.

• Short Message: Hardworking families and seniors deserve real solutions to the affordability crisis, but eliminating property taxes just saddles us with higher costs while handing big profits to corporations for services that are currently public, affordable, and working for us.
• Full Message: Local services that our communities depend on like public hospitals and health services, first responders, disaster relief, and schools, rely on property taxes. So what happens if property taxes are eliminated? We’ll be forced to turn to private corporations for basic necessities or have to pay new fees to the government that jack up our everyday costs. That’s not real savings. Hardworking families and seniors deserve real solutions to the affordability crisis, but eliminating property taxes just saddles us with higher costs while handing big profits to corporations for services that are currently public, affordable, and working for us.
