Florida Democrats,
Looking at the news of the past few weeks, it can feel overwhelming. From the hollowing of the voting rights act to redistricting, and the general chaos we find ourselves in, everything can feel uncertain.
I want to share something that has given me hope over the last few weeks. In the words of one of our greatest freedom fighters, the immortal John Lewis,
“Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part.”
The work ahead is much, but the opportunities are plentiful. We are Florida Democrats and that means we won’t back down. We will fight back in the Courts, on the doors, on the phones, and at the ballot box. Together we will use our rage to get into good and necessary trouble.
Grateful to be in this fight alongside you.
In Solidarity,
Nikki Fried
Chair

The counties below reached the most voters this past week.
| | When Democrats are enrolled in Vote-by-Mail, they vote more than 95% of the time - but under Florida’s current rules, every voter has to re-enroll after each major election cycle. That means even Democrats who voted by mail in 2024 need to sign up again to receive a mail ballot in 2026. Help us call Dems across Florida and make sure they know how to re-enroll. | | |
Democrats Fight Back After Republicans Rig Midterm Maps and Courts Overturn the Will of Voters
-
On Friday, the Virginia Supreme Court invalidated an election — rejecting the will of millions of voters who cast ballots to redraw their maps and protect fair elections.
-
It came a day after Tennessee Republicans passed a new congressional map that breaks up Memphis — a majority-Black city — into three districts, diluting the power of voters of color.
-
Despite public opposition to redistricting, Republicans are forging ahead after the Supreme Court effectively gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act with their decision in Louisiana v. Callais.
-
Alabama’s Governor Kay Ivey announced plans to break up the last district represented by Democrats in order to dilute the voting power of Black residents.
-
Election officials in Louisiana delayed their congressional primaries to redraw the map in favor of Republicans.
-
In Florida, Ron DeSantis’ redrawn congressional map intentionally violated Florida’s constitution and the Fair Districts Amendment in anticipation of the Callais ruling.
- Democrats are not backing down. We’re fighting tooth and nail to contest every election and make sure that all Americans’ voices are heard in November and in every election that follows.
