Chairman Eaves to Encourage Colleagues to Support the Return of Friday Hours

Chairman to ask entire Board of Commissioners to back 4 hour shifts at

10 branches

ATLANTA - Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman John H. Eaves is expressing his public support for efforts to restore Friday hours to ten libraries within the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.  Under one proposal, each of those ten branches and the Central Library downtown would be open for library patrons for 4 hours on Friday.

"I heard loud and clear one message from constituents all over the county, whether they live in North Fulton, South Fulton or in the City of Atlanta," Chairman Eaves said.  "They valued our libraries as neighborhood assets and resources.  They also wanted that resource available to them on Fridays."

Friday hours at several branches were cut back in January after County Commissioners approved a series of cuts in the 2014 budget.  The plan the Chairman is asking the Board of Commissioners consider a four Friday schedule at the following branches:

  • Adams Park
  • Adamsville/Collier Heights
  • Buckhead
  • Central
  • East Atlanta
  • East Point
  • Northeast/Sprull Oaks
  • Ocee
  • Roswell
  • South Fulton
  • Southwest

In developing this plan, library officials have taken steps to ensure that Friday library access would be available in or near all geographic areas of Fulton County.  To make the move possible, library staff schedules would be adjusted to cover the shifts.
