2030 | 2040 | 2050 Challenges

TLC is committed to creating high-performance buildings and working towards global carbon neutrality.

In 2010, TLC joined the AIA 2030 Commitment. As one of the first engineering firms to sign on to the Commitment, TLC has over a decade’s worth of project energy performance data that has been reported to the AIA Design Data Exchange. TLC is committed to educating our teaming partners and building owners on the triple bottom line benefits of sustainable buildings, recognizing that education and measuring are the first steps in achieving tangible results.

In 2021, TLC signed the MEP 2040 Challenge. This Challenge requires firms to take specific actions, including reducing the use of high-GWP refrigerants, requesting embodied carbon data from MEP systems and equipment manufacturers, and becoming active participants in industry-wide efforts to decarbonize building systems.

To round out our active participation in decarbonizing the built environment, TLC has backed the SE 2050 Challenge and will soon sign on formally with the SEI 2050 Commitment.

Being a signatory firm means that we will hone our abilities to track the embodied carbon content of structural systems and submit annual data to SEI.

In becoming MEP 2040 and SE 2050 signatories, TLC has committed to conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCA’s) on our projects. LCA’s are critical to understanding our projects’ role in global warming and provide a baseline upon which TLC can continually improve.

Overall, transparency is the key to TLC’s success within each of these Commitments. As signatories, we are able to address the impact of the built environment on climate change through project-based, data-driven solutions.
