COVID-19 TESTING
COVID-19 testing is encouraged for all adults who live or work in Napa County. The county's new testing procedure uses
a less invasive nasal swab that is equally effective as the original longer one in detecting COVID-19.

WORDS MATTER
"We draw our strength from the very despair in which we have been forced to live.
We shall endure."
|
When COVID-19 struck, CanDo became a library - that is to say we lent out hilary Zunin so that she could help lead efforts to organize volunteers county-wide during the pandemic.
Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) develops and enhances partnerships for communi-cation, coordination and collaboration amongst the whole community
during all phases of a disaster.
That includes nonprofit and faith-based organizations, govern- ment agencies, and the private sector
Once you complete the Volunteers on Call (VOC) process, you'll receive a weekly email with volunteer opportunities. If nothing suits, simply delete. If you're game, RSVP. You'll receive a confirmation and our thanks.

The Choices We Make
Napa Valley CanDo seeks to inspire and facilitate action
by alerting interested Valley residents about opportunities for service. If you participate as a volunteer in an activity that you learned about through Napa Valley CanDo, whether initiated by CanDo or another organization, please take personal responsibility for your involvement. Use common sense. Only you can determine whether an activity is a good
fit, that is to say
compatible with your interests and abilities.

NAPA'S BLACK COMMUNITY FOUGHT FOR
FREEDOM FROM THE START
from the
Napa Valley Register
by Alexandria Brown
"Napa County is not exempt from racism and anti-Blackness. Like the rest
of the country, they are baked into its very foundation.
Even slavery
stains our soil. Brought to Napa from a North Carolina cotton plantation
by slaveholder William Rice, Robert and Dilcey, their son and daughter-
in-law Aaron and Charlotte, and Aaron and Charlotte's two boys Nathaniel
and Lewis arrived in Napa in 1860.
"William quickly freed the rest of the family but kept 14-year-old Nathaniel,
violating the bondage contract he and the Rices had signed.
"What must it have felt like to be brought thousands of miles from the place
you were born then torn from your family by a man who saw you as nothing but
property?"

NAPA'S COVID TEST SITE:
MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Napa County cases rose by 40
in the past 72 hours.
Napa County's COVID-19 testing program is expanding!
Each of us needs to maintain social distancing, wear face covers, and follow hygiene recommendations. But testing is our best tool to determine where the virus is and where it may be going. Napa County data is updated daily and presented
here.
As we identify persons who are infected, most of whom have no symptoms, we are able to intervene. By isolating those who are ill and contact tracing we can mitigate the spread.
We need more non-medical volunteers to help support the medical staff at the Napa expo site.
Volunteers must be healthy and 18-60 years old. The age requirement is firm. They
must also be registered and sworn in through Volunteers on Call (VOC). Start that process
here
.
To see just what's needed to help in this incredibly important work, read
more.
Can't help but know someone who might be interested? Please (please!) forward this information.
Spread the word ... not the virus.

BITS AND PIECES
When every heart joins every heart
and together yearns for liberty,
That's when we'll be free.
When every hand joins every hand
and together molds our destiny,
That's when we'll be free.
Any hour any day,
the time soon will come when men will live in dignity,
That's when we'll be free, we will be
When every man joins in our song
and together singing harmony,
That's when we'll be free.

CanDo's
FOOD RESCUE TEAM
As a Lead Volunteer on CanDo's
Food Rescue Team,
you won't be wearing a hard hat, reading procedure manuals, or attending staff meetings.
No, you'll just be helping new volunteers get the hang of this fun and easy gig: gathering
food donations at the Saturday Farmers' Market for the Food Bank and Homeless Shelter
.
Sign up to work with us 2 or 3 times, and you'll be ready
to go. Leads support each other and take turns so
no
one has to make an ongoing commitment.
Older teens and families
are welcome.
This project takes about
two hours, any Saturday
you choose,
year-round.
