State Minimum Wage to Increase Jan. 1
PIERRE, S.D. – The state minimum wage will increase from $8.65/hour to $8.85/hour effective Jan. 1, 2018.

The minimum wage is annually adjusted by any increase in the cost of living, as measured in the Consumer Price Index published by the U.S. Department of Labor. This year’s increase was 1.9 percent and is rounded up to the nearest five cents.

The hourly minimum wage for tipped employees will be $4.425/hour effective Jan. 1, 2018, half the minimum wage for non-tipped employees. Wages and tips combined must equal at least the minimum wage.

These increases will apply to all South Dakota employers, with some limited exceptions. For more information, visit http://dlr.sd.gov/employment_laws/minimum_wage.aspx

A new ransomware attack has been detected and it's spreading quickly around the world with a rate of 2 million attacks per hour. It's likely higher.

According to an analysis from Barracuda Networks, the massive attack is launching around 8,000 different versions of the virus script. This makes it very difficult to put a stop to the attack.

The attacks seem to have originated in Vietnam, but some are coming from a multitude of other countries including India, Colombia, Turkey, and Greece. As the attacks spread, computers in more countries will be part of the hack.
