2018 BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION
Chamber of Commerce By-Laws Requirements-Election Process
Article IV, Board of Directors
The Directors Nominating Committee is presenting the following slate of five (5) candidates for a three-year term. The candidates have been contacted and are willing to accept directorship responsibilities.
Additional names of candidates for Directors can be nominated by petition, bearing the signatures of at least twenty (20) members in good standing of the Chamber. Such petition shall be filed with the Directors Nominating Committee within ten (10) days (November 20 – December 4, 2017) after notice has been given of the names of those nominated. The determination of the Directors Nominating Committee as to the legality of the petition shall be final.
If no petition is filed within the designated period (November 20 – December 4, 2017), the nomination shall be closed and the nominated slate of candidates shall be declared elected by the current Board of Directors at the December 20, 2017 board meeting. If a legal petition shall present additional candidate(s), the names of all candidates shall be arranged on a ballot in alphabetical order. Instructions will be to vote for one (1). Ballots shall be mailed to the membership within five (5) days after the deadline for receiving the petitions. Petitions are to be returned to the Chamber of Commerce, 803 East 4

Join the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce as they head to Pierre to meet with state agencies and the Governor to discuss issues affecting Yankton area residents and the business community. We will be meeting with cabinet members of Tourism, Agriculture, Transportation, Economic Development, Education, Game, Fish and Park and Labor. That evening we will be hosting the legislators at the Pierre Ramkota and have an opportunity to discuss Yankton initiatives while the NFAA Easton Archery staff entertains them with a good-natured archery competition. Broadway Chrysler held a ribbon cutting for their expanded Express Lane oil change service on Tuesday, November 14. The Express Lane is located at 2720 Broadway. The service hours are Monday-Friday 7:30 am-5:30 pm and Saturdays 8 am - 4 pm. Congratulations to Broadway Chrysler!

David Owen, with the SD Chamber of Commerce, was the guest speaker at the Pre-Legislative Breakfast on Thursday, Nov. 16 at Czeckers Sports Bar & Grill. David provided an overview of items that will be discussed during the 2018 Legislative session in Pierre. Topics ranged from term limits to marijuana, a cigarette tax increase to open primary elections, and more.

Governor Daugaard Speaking at YHS
Governor Daugaard will be speaking at the YHS Theater on December 19 beginning at 5:30. The Governor will discuss Workforce Development, Apprenticeship Program, Build Dakota Scholarship, and promoting the YSD Internship Program.
Parents, students, business owners/leaders, and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Following the Governor’s event beginning at 6:00 the YSD will host local businesses in the YHS Commons who are currently involved in the Internship Program and those interested in becoming part of the Internship Program.

Competition Overview
To enter the Governor's Giant Vision Business Competition, applicants must submit an extensive written business plan outlining their idea.
A panel of judges made up of venture capitalists, financiers, educators, and established business leaders will review all applications and select the qualifying entries that will participate in the competition held in conjunction with this year's Governor's Office of Economic Development Conference in Sioux Falls. All qualifiers will be expected to give presentations and discuss their ideas with business leaders, finance experts and others invited to attend the event.
The winner will be awarded $20,000. Second place award of $10,000, third place receiving $5,000, fourth place $3,000, and fifth place $2,000. The remaining qualifiers will receive $500 each to help with the expense of participation.
