Wine not me? Pinstripes is a timeless concept…” reads the new marketing material that development manager Lisa Hasbach shared with B2B Insider . Like 2027 ahead of its time timeless! Like keepin’ up with the ClearForks ! Pinstripes executive chef Michael Olds is teaming with Texas’ Messina Hof winery on a four-course meal with wine pairings at 7 p.m. Jan. 31. The $60 fee includes tax and service. Olds, bringing in the new, will be serving a Poached Tri-Color Beet Salad, a Crispy Rainbow Trout starter, Cherrywood Smoked Duck for the entrée and Blackberry Upside-Down Cake for the finale. Paired wines are Paulo Sagrantino, Riesling, GSM and Paulo Port. You will be paired, too, because Lisa rolled over two VIP tickets for the dinner. (Fabulous bowling and bocce are on you.)
Effective PR: Maddie Thannun, hoping to get a promotion at Pavlov Agency , was trying to get Mr. B to write about her boss, Claire Bloxom Armstrong. Nothing to write, Mr. B said, but who is your best account, Maddie, because Mr. B can be bribed. Soooo … Maddie and Mr. B met at Austin City Taco for breakfast tacos. Migas were everywhere. Wafting through the air were the smells of fresh flour tortillas, slow-cooked, oak-smoked brisket, and marinated rotisserie chickens as good as those twirling at Costco. Maddie had a lot to say and Mr. B had a lot to eat and breakfast turned into lunch. Maddie brought two $50 gift cards for Austin City Taco to cement the bribe arrangement and that is the back story of how Claire Bloxom Armstrong got mentioned.
Un-rosy exchange: Mr. B got caught looking at the Gordon Boswell Flowers website by the Prospective Ms. B. He was just about to click on the monthly Win Free Roses button. “Really?” the Prospective said. “ Free roses for Valentine’s Day .” Mr. B said no, he was doing newsletter research because Gordon Boswell Flowers is the official florist of B2B Insider . “Really?” the Prospective said. “Then why don’t you research that Win Free Wedding button right next to the Win Free Roses one?” Mr. B had all the “Reallys?” he could take. The reality of this tale is that GM Cheri Kirkman at Gordon Boswell Flowers has a beautiful Bella Rose Design bouquet for one reader. Bella consists of a dozen red roses, stargazer lilies and Bells of Ireland.
Front & center, not rear: During her nearly 30 years with the United States Navy, Marsha Evans was one of the few women to reach the rank of Rear Admiral. Today, she is listed U.S. Navy (Retired). And this is how she “retired”: Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of America , then President and Chief Executive Officer, The American Red Cross , and finally about seven months as Acting Commissioner of the Ladies Professional Golf Association. She is a director at Office Depot, Weight Watchers International, the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation and others. She has eight honorary degrees, more than Kevin Bacon, and quite a few honors and awards with Presidents in the name. Her golf and skiing friends call her Marty. She suggested Mr. B call her Marsha. If you don't win a seat today, Mr. B suggests you call TCU Neeley School of Business and make sure you have tickets to hear her speak during the Tandy Executive Speaker Series breakfast Feb 6.
Congratulations to the January 15th
Prize Winners:

  • Mark Mourer, YMCA
  • Debbie Tubbs, CliftonLarsonAllen
  • Marguerite Jones, Tarrant County
  • Stacy Vann, Deloitte
Slow down …: CPA Lei Testa of CliftonLarsonAllen describes herself as an eternal optimist. So, I need some ‘but…ahs’ and ‘what if-fers’ around to keep me grounded.”
Head of the salsa line: Men’s Health magazine tested 49 brands of salsa and No. 4 on its top-5 list is Mrs. Renfro's Green Salsa . “Balance is key to a good green salsa. Too many of those we tried had either a slimy texture or too much acidity. This jar, however, had heat, freshness, tang—it’s all there,” wrote one tester. “Warm some up and spoon it over a seared pork chop or salmon fillet.”
Have a heart: Mr. B iHeart Linda Valdez Thompson at DFW Airport is chairing the Feb. 7 Wear Red Day for the Fort Worth American Heart Association . The No. 1 health threat for women is heart disease.
How’s your workplace? Darien George, Mackenzie Eason founder and workplace talent adviser, says:
  • Companies’ revenue and retention are driven by their core values, culture and vision.
  • The 10-to-20 percent of underperforming leaders push talent away.
  • People develop through 1) experiences, 2) feedback and 3) training.
  • Not enough organizations hire slow and fire fast.
Transparency? After 30 years, Boss Miserly Mistress is departing the Chamber. (Accolades to come.) In the SVP job description for her irreplaceable replacement, Mr. B noticed there was no mention of “monitoring Mr. B.” Either there will be no Mr. B going forward or it was a deliberate attempt to not scare potential applicants.

It’s free to attend and discover.
Re-tire: Chamber Forte Award finalist, All American Tire Recyclers , says it is the only 100% green tire recycling facility in Tarrant County… even though the tires are black. Driving analytics batty: Zach Hall ( TCU, above) explains the difference in “driver” and "analytical" personalities at work. “Drivers want an answer,” he said, “and analytics want THE answer.”
Kudos yourownself : During a discussion of goals for 2020, Tonya Falzett of Financial (and HR) Additions had an over-riding thought – We’re always planning ahead, “but don’t forget to praise yourself for the things you are doing well today.”
Super Kudos: During 2019, the Texas Tornados Leads Group (Tuesday noon at Buffalo West ) closed deals on 96 leads between members. Wowser!
