EXCITE PROGRAM RECRUITS EMPLOYERS
|
|
EXCITE is a week-long summer professional development program placing middle and high school educators in business settings in order to connect the classroom to the workplace. Educators will spend one or two days at each company, visiting between two and four businesses over four days. The fifth day will include a debrief meeting with the program coordinator and peers to discuss lessons learned and ideas for classroom implementation.
There is no cost to employers to participate.
The goal is to equip teachers with answers to the “why do I need to know this” question and create relevancy within the standard curriculum based on real-life experiences provided by industry. Counselors can use the experience to connect students to careers and develop networks that expand work-based learning experiences for students.
Employer responsibilities include:
- hosting at least two teachers for a one or two-day experience
- providing an overview of the company including job opportunities and facility tour
- reviewing the recruitment process, including requirements for employment and desired skills
- providing shadowing experiences for teachers, preferably with hands-on experiences
- identifying opportunities to design real-world examples and problems that teachers could integrate into their curriculum
Employers are being recruited to participate in the summer 2019 program,
which will run June 17-21 and July 15-19.
