Jason Wright praised Arlington as a place that not only has a connected community, but also a global outlook. "It's not just a small town community feel, but it's also a place that wants Amazon HQ2 as a neighbor," said Wright. He continued by discussing his tenure as President of the Washington Commanders and how he navigated complex issues during his tenure such as the change in name of the franchise. Wright emphasized the importance of doing the right thing, even when it can be hard, while also stressing the need to lead with diplomacy.
In addition to the keynote address, attendees heard from David Kinney of Clarendon LLC, the Arlington Chamber 2024 Board Chair. Kinney thanked Chamber Directors, members and volunteers for their hard work in the past twelve months. President & CEO Kate Bates reviewed the Chamber's top achievements of 2024, including business advocacy efforts, evolving events and programs, and community engagement work.
The Chamber also recognized several organizations and individuals for their support of the Chamber and Arlington community.
The Committee of the Year Award was presented to the Chamber's Community Action Committee, chaired by Jennifer Davies of the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, for their steadfast work raising the business community's awareness of nonprofit organizations and organizing the Chamber's annual Volunteer Day.
Mastercard received the Chair's Award, presenting to a business who made an exceptional impact on the Chamber. Mastercard was honored for their continued dedication to the Arlington business community, and strong support for both nonprofit organizations Chamber initiatives such as Volunteer Day and the Young Professionals series.
Scott E. Pedowitz of the Apartment and Office Building Association received the President's Award, sponsored by Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley & Walsh P.C., for outstanding contributions to the Chamber in the past year. Scott has served as Co-Chair of the Government Affairs and Economic Development Committee, has been extensively involved in guiding Chamber advocacy, and is a tireless champion of the Chamber.
Following the awards Chamber 2025 Board Chair Steve Cooper of Exelaration Foundation gave remarks, praising the Arlington Chamber for being "the most impactful, most thriving and friendliest business association in this region." Cooper introduced the slate for the 2025 Executive Committee and Board of Directors, which included the announcement that Bismah Ahmed of the Apartment and Office Building Association will serve as the Chamber 2026 Board Chair.
The Annual Meeting concluded with a presentation from Senator Adam Ebbin and Senator Barbara Favola of a Virginia General Assembly resolution commending the Arlington Chamber for their 100th anniversary in 2024. President & CEO Kate Bates thanked the General Assembly members for their continued partnership with the Chamber and with the business community.
