Downtown PG Public Washroom Survey

Whether you live, work, shop, or spend time downtown, access to a public washroom matters. City Staff have reviewed different delivery models, costs, and approaches used by other municipalities and service providers, and now we want to hear from you.

At its September 17, 2025 Regular Council Meeting, Council received for information a report titled Access to Public Washrooms in Downtown Prince George, which summarizes options and considerations. Council has now directed Administration to seek feedback from the public and the downtown community. If you haven’t already seen this report, we recommend reading it before taking the survey below.

Your input will help inform future decisions about public washroom access downtown. The survey will be open until March 2, 2026. It takes less than five minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous.

Fraser Gateway Modular

A Note from Neil

Hello and Hadih.

In collaboration with our partners at Downtown Prince George, the Chamber met with Gary Anandasangaree, the federal public safety minister, on January 6. That was followed by a meeting with Premier David Eby on January 21 with a single item on the agenda: public safety.

Last Monday, I was on a BC Chamber of Commerce call with Jobs Minister Ravi Kahlon, beating the drum about how crime and street disorder has eroded business confidence in our downtown and adjacent areas.

Chrisie Berry, my counterpart at Downtown Prince George, and I have just returned home after attending Tuesday’s provincial budget speech, thanks to our local MLAs Rosalyn Bird and Kiel Giddens. During our time in Victoria, we met with their BC Conservative colleagues and had a long discussion with West Kelowna-Peachland MLA Macklin McCall, the public safety critic.

Next week, Chrisie and I will have a 30-minute virtual meeting with Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger, following up on a meeting we were part of with Minister Krieger in Prince George last November. As we did in November, we will be urging the minister to collaborate with us and other levels of government on urgent, short-term relief for local businesses hit hard by ongoing arson, vandalism, assaults, and theft, as well as longer-term solutions to make our streets safer for everyone.

Meetings and being heard is encouraging but ultimately a waste of time and energy if those discussions don’t lead to action and improvement.

Your Chamber of Commerce is a non-partisan business association, meaning we don’t endorse candidates or political parties at election time. But with a municipal election set for October 17 and the possibility of both provincial and a federal election this year, the Chamber will be urging all the candidates to make public safety their top priority and asking them to offer reasonable and realistic plans to make things better.

If you have some ideas or insights on how we can make local streets safer for employers and employees alike, and how the Chamber could be doing more to make that happen, please reach out. I’d love to hear from you.

All the best to you and your business,

Neil
