Hello and Hadih.
As you likely have heard, the Chamber has partnered with Downtown Prince George to host a safe streets rally at CN Centre on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 7 to 830 pm. We know this issue is of great importance to you and your businesses, so we’re hopeful you will help us promote this opportunity to have the entire community come together in support.
Attached you’ll find vertical and horizontal posters of the event to print for use at your business or to post in your social media channels. You’ll also find the letter the board of directors has sent to Prince George city council with specific action recommendations for them and senior levels of government to take. If you so choose, use our letter as a template to write your own letter to mayor and council. This fall, city council is seeking input on choices they should make for their next budget, the last budget they will improve before the next civic elections in October 2026. Now is the time to make your voice heard, particularly among the ones who will be seeking your vote for re-election. Letters from hundreds of businesses – owners, operators, and staff – would hammer home the point that making our streets safer for everyone must be their top priority.
Twenty-five years ago, 7,000 residents filled CN Centre demanding change in the face of an acute shortage of doctors in the city and across the region. Those residents still had hope that their voices mattered and that coming together could make a difference. That rally didn’t change things overnight but the message was heard loud and clear, provincially and nationally. The creation of the Northern Medical Program, along with a significant and ongoing investment into training more health care professionals and recruiting them to serve in rural and remote communities in BC and across Canada, can be directly linked back to that rally in June 2000.
So let’s do it again. Let’s unite as a community to demand the safe streets everyone in our city deserves. This is the peaceful and productive way to make our voices heard. It worked 25 years and it can work again.
Please share this email with your customers and your entire network. We want you to be sitting with a full house of your fellow proud and concerned Prince George residents.
On behalf of the Chamber board of directors, I look forward to you joining us on Oct. 16.
All the best to you and your business,
Neil
