The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce is offering our appreciation for the recent announcement of a tri-partnership to expedite the twinning of 19 KM of Highway 40 located south of Grande Prairie to the Norbord Wood Panel Plant. The Chamber has been a strong advocate for this project on behalf of our members who live and work in that area.

It can’t be said enough how important this undertaking is to our region which is one of the economic drivers in the province. The improved road safety will ensure continued economic development and help businesses with recruitment and retention of employees.

We thank Transportation Minister Hon. Ric McIver, Finance Minister Hon. Travis Toews, the Municipal District of Greenview and the County of Grande Prairie for their ongoing commitment to safety on Highway 40 and finding a way to move this project forward. Thank you as well to Tracy Allard, MLA, Grande Prairie; Dale Smith, Reeve, Municipal District of Greenview, and Leanne Beaupre, Reeve, County of Grande Prairie for their work bringing stakeholders together, which ultimately led to this innovative cost-sharing partnership.

We also thank the many other individuals and organizations for keeping this venture at the top of their advocacy priorities including Mayor Bill Given and the City of Grande Prairie; former Minister of Transportation, Wayne Drysdale, MLA Todd Loewen, and more. The Chamber looks forward to future collaboration with the province and our municipal partners for the betterment of the residents of the Peace Region and Alberta as a whole.
