Let's Talk About It Virtual: Illinois Women and the Fight for the Vote on Wed. Apr. 13 at 7pm. A century ago, Illinois women fought a long, hard battle for full citizenship and the chance to improve society through their electoral power. In 1913 they won an important victory: the right to vote in federal and municipal elections. In 1919, Illinois was the first state to ratify the 19th amendment granting all American women the right to vote. Join us to hear Lori Osborne, director of the Evanston Women's History Project, present the realities surrounding these historic events. Let’s Talk About It: Women’s Suffrage is a humanities discussion project from the American Library Association (ALA) supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
Remembering Route 66 with Leslie Goddard on Mon. Apr. 18 at 7pm. The name evokes images of gas stations, mom-and-pop motels, quirky attractions, and adventure on the open road. In this nostalgia-packed lecture, historian Leslie Goddard, explores the history of Route 66, the iconic road that linked Chicago to Los Angeles from 1926 until its closing in the mid-1980s. Learn why Route 66 remains so indelibly associated with the lore of the American road trip. What was Route 66 like at its pinnacle – and what is it today?
Zen Yin Yoga on Tue. Apr. 19 at 7pm. Zen Yin is a deep stretch while you breathe in various yoga seated postures. The intention is to relax and extend the myofascial and muscle fibers while holding postures for long periods of time. Many benefits include the soothing effects of relaxation, turning inward to quiet the mind, and breathing through any discomfort in the body. Eve of Hart Yoga Studio (Frankfort) will be your guide. Please bring a yoga mat or a large towel.
