Nonfiction at Night (In-person) on Mon. Aug. 9 at 7pm. Join us to discuss Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures by Merlin Sheldrake. Merlin Sheldrake's revelatory introduction to this world will show us how fungi, and our relationships with them, are more astonishing than we could have imagined. Bringing to light science's latest discoveries and ingeniously parsing the varieties and behaviors of the fungi themselves, he points us toward the fundamental questions about the nature of intelligence and identity this massively diverse, little understood kingdom provokes.
Birds for Beginners on Tue. Aug. 10 at 10am. An outdoor nature field trip for adults. Hike Messenger Woods with a Forest Preserve District of Will County Naturalist in search of birds in the preserve. Learn what common birds can be found here and how to identify them.
Top Shelf Tuesdays (In-Person) on Tue. Aug. 10 at 7pm. Join us to discuss The Au Pair by Emma Rous. Set in England on the Norfolk Coast, Seraphine begins to question what really happened to her mother and her place in her family. She finds a photo of her mother, the day she and her twin were born and the day her mother took her own life, but she is only holding one baby. Villagers talk of changelings, dark cloaks, and an Au Pair. Suspense builds as she uncovers family secrets.
