Lisa Edwards
Lisa Edwards Has a Career Change
After serving more than 11 years in the Chamber world, Lisa is changing both her employer and her career path as she transitions to the next chapter in her career.

Lisa has served as President of the Anchor Bay Chamber since July 2004, and has had the added role of serving as the Marketing Director of the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber since April of 2010.

She has been a "fixture" in our communities for so many years, both as an employee and a volunteer, and will be missed by our Chambers, but she promises to still keep up much of her community involvement in her new position with Chamber Member SERVPRO of Mt. Clemens/New Baltimore, located in Chesterfield Township, (586) 598-5050. She will begin her new position on Monday, August 18.

We wish you much continued success Lisa, and look forward to seeing your smiling face at future Chamber events, now as a volunteer!

OOP's we forgot one!

Time to Consider Serving on Chamber's Board of Directors
While 2015 may seem like a long time away, it's not as far away as we'd like to think, especially when it comes to our annual elections for Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce & Industry Board of Directors positions.

In January 2008 we established Election Guidelines that state we are to publish notification of the upcoming election in July and August, and invite qualified members to run for a seat on our Board of Directors.

Our Bylaws state:

Section 2: BOARD MEMBER CRITERIA

Members of the Board of Directors must be representatives of a member business in good standing for a minimum of two (2) years. In addition, an individual must be a member of the Chamber in good standing for a minimum of eighteen (18) months in order to qualify for election or appointment to the Board. A member of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce may not serve on a board or any committee of another Macomb County-based chamber of commerce. A person who is elected to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce who is serving on a board or committee of another Macomb County-based chamber of commerce must resign his/her position on the board or committee of the other Macomb County-based chamber of commerce prior to taking his/her oath of office as a Board member of the Chamber of Commerce. Should a member business no longer be in good standing with the Chamber or the elected Board member no longer be affiliated with the member business with which he/she was affiliated when elected, then that Board member no longer qualifies as a Board member, and his/her seat on the Board immediately becomes vacant.

The Chamber shall publicize to the membership on or before August 15, the annual election, any vacancies on the Board of Directors, and the deadline for submitting nominations for Board membership.

All applications shall be received by the Board by Sept. 15, to be eligible for review by the Nominating Committee which is the Executive Board. The Board Executive Committee will meet prior to the September meeting to verify applicant's qualifications, and the Board meets on September 30 to approve the ballot and qualified applicants. If required, Ballots will be mailed on or before October 31, and to be counted, must be received at the Chamber offices by November 15. The ballot results will be reported to the Board at the November meeting, and newly-elected and re-elected Board members will be installed at the December meeting.

Our 23 member Board of Directors is responsible for the governance and policy making responsibilities of the Chamber, and also controls its property, is responsible for the finances and directs the affairs of the Chamber. Current Directors whose terms expire in 2014 are Clark Andrews, Dan Felstow, Brent Freeman, Terri Giampetroni, Barbara Rossmann, Jeff Vollmar and Mike Weiss. All of these current directors are eligible for re-election, and we also have two additional open seats at this time. We welcome qualified members with an interest in serving on our Board and ask you to contact President Wayne Oehmke at (586) 731-5400, ext. 22, or e-mail at [email protected] and he'll discuss the criteria with you and furnish the necessary application forms.

Stella Sweets Bakery opens in New Baltimore

Bakery owners Zef and Jennifer Bojaj, bakery namesake and youngest daughter Stella handled the scissors, and they were joined by family, friends, New Baltimore Treasurer Jeanne Bade, County Commissioner Kathy Vosburg, Chamber Directors and Ambassadors, and Phil Kraft representing Congresswoman Candice Miller.

Jennifer and Zef were inspired by their grandmother's recipes in opening their new bakery. They fell in love with the "little pink house" located across the street from the Walter and Mary Burke Park on the waterfront in downtown New Baltimore. Interesting note is the new bakery is located in the same building that was the former home of the Anchor Bay Chamber offices. The family-oriented business offers a wide variety of sugary selections to accommodate the most aggressive sweet tooth. They feature a daily variety of cupcakes, cakes and an assortment of delectable pastries. When visiting Stella Sweets be sure to check out the party room that is perfect for hosting your birthday parties and other events. Jennifer and Zef utilize locally produced ingredients to encourage the growth and appeal of southeastern Michigan. They're located at 36341 Front Street, (586) 648-7203, email [email protected], and on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/StellaSweetsBakery.

Supervisor Rick Stathakis, and a host of our great Chamber Ambassadors to officially open their great new facility. This new business was built from the ground up based on the growing interest, enthusiasm, and passion of sportsmen and avid collectors alike.

"Our 1,500 sq. ft. showroom carries a variety of new and used firearms, ammo and accessories. Silent Scope Firearms prides itself on its unique vendor relationships, making it possible to obtain that "limited edition" piece that you've been searching for." The knowledgeable staff is available daily for gunsmithing, as well as offering weekly gun safety and training classes.
