The Chamber of Commerce along with the  City of Grande Prairie  and  County of Grande Prairie  are working together as a  Business Resiliency Taskforce  to provide a unified approach to supporting local businesses.

On our website  is a list of resources to help you navigate various levels of financial support and reopening guidelines.

Digital Marketing Training

The  Business Resiliency Taskforce  has partnered with  Community Futures   Grande Prairie & Region  and  nine10 Inc.  to offer pragmatic and in-depth digital marketing training to local businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19.

The purpose of the program is to equip local businesses with the skills and knowledge to grow their business utilizing the latest digital marketing tools. The areas of focus will be digital content strategy, branding & visual identity, web design tools and applications, social media, search engine marketing and websites & e-commerce.

Once complete, businesses will come out of the workshop with the knowledge to grow their social following, enhance their visual brand, run effective marketing campaigns, and setup a powerful website.

While the value of the program is estimated at $4,000 per business, thanks to the partnership and municipal funding, businesses will have access to the program for $250.

Due to the experiential and hands on format of the workshops, space is limited so businesses are encouraged to apply early. Applications for the program open July 21 and will be accepted until August 5. Digital onboarding will begin at the end of August with in-person training beginning mid-September. COVID-19 risk mitigation and physical distancing measures will be acknowledged during in-person training with a contingency plan in place for a digital delivery model.

CO-OP DONATION

The Grande Prairie Hospitals’ Auxiliary Association would like to take this opportunity to thank the Horizon Co-op for their generous donation to help us continue our work providing equipment, furniture, and supplies to our local hospitals. Every month the Horizon Co-op collects coins from their stores in Grande Prairie, La Glace, Rycroft, Hythe, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, Grande Cache, and Falher to support a registered non-profit organization in the area. Pictured in the photo are Al Melcolm, Downtown Co-op Food Store Leader; Dorothy Kusyk, Past-President of the GPHAA; Bonnie Middleton; and Dawson Green, Marketing Team Leader.

The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie is proud to commission local writer, Sue Farrell Holler, to create this very moving and relatable piece for 'The Curve: Community Art Installation'.

Sue Farrell Holler  is a Grande Prairie writer whose work is recognized for its simplicity and emotional depth. She won the R. Ross Annett Award for Children’s Literature for her young adult novel “Cold White Sun,” was a 2019 finalist for a Governor General’s Literary Award and is currently a finalist for a High Plains Book Award. Her next work, a picture book called “Raven, Rabbit, Deer,” is scheduled for publication in November.

You can see Sues' written installation, and the rest of the community submissions, as part of 'The Curve'. The Gallery is one of the few galleries in Alberta that are open regular hours and is a FREE Admission Gallery.

About Canada United

The #CanadaUnited campaign is a nationwide small and local business campaign encouraging Canadians to buy local.

RBC, ‘Corporate Canada’, Business Associations and Major Media Partners have teamed up to start a movement, Canada UnitedTM, where everyday Canadians and large businesses come together in support of small and local businesses. The movement will start with a #CanadaUnited campaign where Canadians are asked to complete ‘micro-actions’ (likes, views, etc.) in support of small and local businesses on social media. In short, Canada United encourages action from everyday Canadians and Corporate Canada and kickstarts the recovery of local economies and small businesses.

Learn more at GoCanadaUnited.ca .

Canada United is offering small business relief grants of up to $5,000 to help small Canadian businesses with recovery efforts as a result of COVID-19. The grant funds will grow over the next several weeks as every video watched and social post liked from Canada United will result in a 5¢ contribution from RBC. Funds can be used for PPE, renovations, or e-commerce capabilities.

To determine if you’re eligible to apply for a relief grant or learn more about this program, visit http://occ.ca/canadaunited-ab .

Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre at 10121-93 St. is looking for your support.

We have two needs that are critical to our facility.

The first is the need for a 6' fence around the perimeter of the property.
Because our donor wall will be on a 100' length of fence we need extra strong posts. The quote we have is for $24,575 + GST

Most of the grants that we have applied for, or would normally apply for have all shifted focus and as many are aware, fundraising has been challenging. Like all non profits we rely on grants, donations, sponsorships and gifts in kind to succeed and serve our community.

We have some volunteers willing to help us with the task of fencing, however materials are out of reach at the moment.

To help ourselves raise some money we will be hosting a fundraiser in late August or mid September (awaiting our kitchen to be built and approved) and we will be selling tables to aid us in raising some much needed operational funding. We have education kits that we need to get out to our teachers, field trips to arrange and support and collections and displays to keep moving forward. Those services require someone to go to the teachers and share with them what the kits are and how they work. Then to book and manage them and their contents. Each kit holds two courses with a total of 8 stations and over 130 artifacts. They need to be maintained consistently after every "rental".

Monday to Friday we'd love to have at least one school come through our facility and participate in our  educational kits . Or if you know a school that field trips can't take place we can ship a kit to them to use for a week.

We have a host of ways people can get involved.

We can use skills with fundraising, marketing, gardening and landscaping (we have a half acre space to manicure!), interior decorating, shadow boxes etc.

I would also like to mention we will be ready for rent soon too; we look forward to hosting community events that would like an indoor/outdoor space for community BBQ's, dinners, meetings, job fairs, mini trade shows etc.

I want to thank the Jackpot Grill & Event Centre for helping us obtain the equipment we need for our outdoor community kitchen at an affordable price. It's deeply gratifying to work with those who support each other.
