The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie is proud to commission local artist, Tim Heimdal, to create an on site mural, from July 14 to August 17 for The Curve: Community Art Installation . Tim is an award winning Canadian artist, who has designed and painted over 100 murals, most notably the 7-story mural of Kakwa Falls.

His work 'Much Ado About Nothing' is an evolving mural painted as a response to the pandemic. Inspired by his unfinished work for the cancelled play, Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare, at Grande Prairie Live Theatre.

You can stop by and see Tim's mural evolve, and the rest of the community submissions, as part of The Curve - on now!
Some exciting news to share with all members of the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association - our new summer campaign, the Grande Plan, has officially launched! With the help of William Joseph Communications, we have put together a campaign to highlight the many hidden gems spread out throughout the region and inspire our communities to get out and explore. As many residents and regional tourists will be seeking entertainment closer to home this summer, this campaign offers them a way to re-discover their own backyard in a whole new way with ready-made day trips. The campaign will be running for the rest of the summer with the potential to extend into the fall. Keep an eye out for the posts and ads on social media and help spread the word by sharing the campaign on your social channels!

For more information on the campaign and to see the Grande Plans, head to  www.gptourism.ca/grandeplan
Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre at 10121-93 St. is looking for your support.

We have two needs that are critical to our facility.

The first is the need for a 6' fence around the perimeter of the property.
Because our donor wall will be on a 100' length of fence we need extra strong posts. The quote we have is for $24,575 + GST

Most of the grants that we have applied for, or would normally apply for have all shifted focus and as many are aware, fundraising has been challenging. Like all non profits we rely on grants, donations, sponsorships and gifts in kind to succeed and serve our community.

We have some volunteers willing to help us with the task of fencing, however materials are out of reach at the moment.

To help ourselves raise some money we will be hosting a fundraiser in late August or mid September (awaiting our kitchen to be built and approved) and we will be selling tables to aid us in raising some much needed operational funding. We have education kits that we need to get out to our teachers, field trips to arrange and support and collections and displays to keep moving forward. Those services require someone to go to the teachers and share with them what the kits are and how they work. Then to book and manage them and their contents. Each kit holds two courses with a total of 8 stations and over 130 artifacts. They need to be maintained consistently after every "rental".

Monday to Friday we'd love to have at least one school come through our facility and participate in our  educational kits . Or if you know a school that field trips can't take place we can ship a kit to them to use for a week.

We have a host of ways people can get involved.

We can use skills with fundraising, marketing, gardening and landscaping (we have a half acre space to manicure!), interior decorating, shadow boxes etc.

I would also like to mention we will be ready for rent soon too; we look forward to hosting community events that would like an indoor/outdoor space for community BBQ's, dinners, meetings, job fairs, mini trade shows etc.

I want to thank the Jackpot Grill & Event Centre for helping us obtain the equipment we need for our outdoor community kitchen at an affordable price. It's deeply gratifying to work with those who support each other.

The County of Grande Prairie Business Support Network is proud to host the 2nd session in the series “ Mastering the Pandemic- Finding Success Amid the Chaos" on August 11 at 9:00 am and will host Grande Prairie Regional College – Continuing Education Department, Revolution Group, Maddhatters and Better than Fred’s.

Join us as we listen to how our local groups have pivoted to remain resilient. Learn what their best practices have become, mistakes that were made, or things they would have done differently. There is plenty of time for questions.
