September flew by, and October is here! It’s officially Fall. Football season is well underway, morning temps are cooler, the leaves are falling, and crops are starting to be harvested.

About Lisa Weaner

Lisa Weaner is the Executive Director of Fort Defiance Humane Society.

Lisa was born and raised in a suburb of Detroit. She met her husband Jim there while both were working in the automotive industry. In 1996, after a career switch, Jim finished law school. They then moved to Defiance where he started practicing law with his family’s firm.

Before joining the Humane Society, Lisa worked for 26 years in operations and project management. Most recently, she served as Senior Vice President of Enterprise Operations at MaritzCX in Toledo, working for 20 years with many large clients like Ford, GM, Marriott, Bank of America, and American Family Insurance.

Lisa has been involved with FDHS since 2017, first as a board member, then as Executive Director, starting in January of 2019. There she leads efforts in animal welfare, community outreach, and fundraising. With a strong commitment to helping both pets and people, Lisa works to build lasting connections between the shelter and the community.

As a life-long animal lover, Lisa has always had a passion to be involved with animal rescue. She and Jim have their own group of “rescues” with 3 dogs and 5 cats.
