February Women's Connect Luncheon
|
When: Thursday, February 13th
Where: SMSU Whipple Art Gallery
Southwest Minnesota State University President Kumara Jayasuriya (Jie-uh-sur-ee-ua) will be the February speaker at the Women's Connect luncheon.
President Jayasuriya has been the architect of a number of enrollment-building initiatives since his arrival, including an increase in the number of online degrees offered; the addition of club hockey, shooting sports and Esports; and a number of innovative scholarship initiatives that will hopefully keep the "best and the brightest" in southwest Minnesota, attending SMSU, all the while creating an inclusive academic environment at the University to support all students in their quest for a college degree.

Marshall Community Foundation Projects
|
The Marshall Community Foundation board is interested in learning about any large community projects, either currently in progress or on the horizon, with a broader and deeper community impact focus. The amount of support for projects could range between $10,000-$20,000. It is the desire of the MCF board to make lasting impact, to the greatest number of residents, in the Marshall community through grant awards at this level. Priority would be given to projects that exemplify collaboration with other organizations and individuals, a focus on wellness, youth development, diversity and community improvement. Please contact the MCF board:
[email protected], with any information that pertains to this potential level of support.

2020 Gold Rush Raffle
|
MARSHALL, Minn. -
The 17th annual Mustang Gold Rush Raffle, sponsored by the Mustang Booster Club, was held on Jan. 31 inside the R/A Facility on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University. The 2020 edition of the Gold Rush Raffle had all 700 tickets sell-the highest total ever-with more than 400 SMSU supporters attending.
The event raised $77,000 with all proceeds helping fund the student-athlete scholarship program through the Mustang Booster Club. A total of $19,850 was raised from the live auction segments, $12,807 from the silent auction items, while $52,500 resulted from ticket sales.
In its 17 years, the Gold Rush Raffle has raised nearly $800,000. The event has seen substantial growth recently with over $522,000 raised in the past seven years alone.
Five individuals were the big winners in the reverse raffle with Pat Louwagie, Sara Kirchner, and John Drown each taking home $500. Caroline Hennen finished in second place winning $1,000, while Joyce Eickhoff took home the grand prize of $2,500.
The SMSU athletics department and the Mustang Booster Club would like to thank everyone that supported this tremendous event through ticket sales and to all those individuals and local businesses for their donations. This event would not be possible without the wonderful community support.
The date for the 18th annual Gold Rush Raffle will be Friday, Jan. 29, 2021. Save the date now!
To reserve a table or if you would like to donate an item for the 2021 Gold Rush Raffle contact Jenn Graven at 507-537-6233 or email [email protected]
