Victims of Foul Play: Patricia Lubeck
|
Patricia Lubeck will discuss her book “Victims of Foul Play: A True Story of One Man’s Dark Secrets” at the Lyon County Museum, 301 W Lyon St in Marshall on Tuesday, October 12 at 6:30 PM. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information: 507-537-6580 or director@lyoncomuseum.org
About the Book:
Clarence Larson married twice. Both of his wives met suspicious ends . . . and yet, he was never convicted of any crime. How can that be? In this masterful exploration of Larson’s life, historian Patricia Lubeck illuminates the failures of procedure and early forensic science that seemingly allowed a murderer to walk free. From the horrifying “accident” that killed his first wife Martha to the strange series of circumstances surrounding the “disappearance” of his second wife Jean, Victims of Foul Play paints a vivid portrait of a sinister man. Richly detailed, with information drawn from original source material and the author’s personal interviews with key players in Larson’s story, this chilling and compelling true crime story is a tribute to two women who deserve truth and justice.

City of Marshall Community Survey Launches Early October
Residents are encouraged to share input in a survey on park, recreation, and community facilities
Marshall, MN – In order to determine current and future needs within the community, the City of Marshall is reaching out to the public for their input on what they feel may be missing or in need of improvement for current and future park and recreation facilities. The city will undertake a statistically valid, random sample survey of voting residents to gauge public opinion about financing for potential improvements in the future to further the city’s stature as a regional center.
The telephone survey, which will be conducted by Baker Tilly, is estimated to take approximately 12 minutes. Baker Tilly will begin reaching out to residents in early October. The information on the caller ID will read “Logos Marketing” or “Logos Research” with a phone number of 651-423-5517. The scientific random-sample phone survey was chosen to ensure the city hears input from residents across all demographics in the community.
“The input gathered through this survey will be incredibly valuable in guiding planning efforts for future opportunities to ensure the city is providing residents with the services and amenities they see value in based off funding availability,” said Sharon Hanson, City Administrator. “I encourage anyone who is contacted to take the time and complete the survey.”
Past surveys conducted by the city have indicated that Marshall is missing family entertainment, additional recreation options and lacking reasons to visit Marshall. Specific facilities and amenities mentioned in addition to an updated aquatic center have included an indoor playground, soccer field expansion, indoor field turf and sport center, senior center improvement, pickle ball courts, trail development and expansion.
“A key part of the survey will be garnering public input regarding different funding options the city is exploring to help pay for current or new amenities,” stated Hanson. “Marshall prides itself on our active system of parks and recreation programs for public use and enjoyment and we hope to continue this through community support.”
Park and recreation facilities are vitally important in establishing and maintaining the quality of life in a community, ensuring the health of families and youth, and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a city and region. By conducting this survey, the City of Marshall can continue to evaluate how to better meet the needs of incoming and current residents as well as visitors.

PRESS RELEASE
MARSHALL (October 4, 2021) --

Property tax payments can be made in person, online, by mail, or by using the drop box.
To make a payment online: Visit the Lyon County website at www.lyonco.org/taxstmt. Payments are accepted via credit or debit card. You will need your 9-digit parcel identification number for each parcel paid. *There is a 2.49% fee charged by the payment processor for all card payments.
Paying by mail: Check or money order payments are accepted by mail and can be sent to Lyon County Auditor/Treasurer, 607 West Main Street, Marshall, MN 56258. Tax payments sent by mail must be postmarked no later than the due date to avoid late penalties. Taxpayers are advised to drop their payment in the mail at least three days prior to the due date.
Drop box: Payments may be placed in the drop box located near the parking lot behind the Government Center off South 7th Street. *Please note on your payment if you would like a receipt mailed to you and include your email address if you want your receipt emailed to you.
Paying Delinquent Taxes: Please contact the Auditor/Treasurer’s office at (507) 537-6724, option 1, or propertytax@co.lyon.mn.us before making any delinquent tax payments to ensure that you are paying the correct amount and are not subject to additional penalties and interest.
Direct Payment Plan: Lyon County also offers a direct payment plan for property taxes where the amount due would be deducted from your bank account on the applicable due date. Sign up now for use of the plan for 2022 and beyond. You may enroll at any time, but signup must be completed by April 1st for first half and September 1st for second half to allow time for bank account verification. The program continues until you notify us to cancel. Remember to contact the Auditor/Treasurer’s office as you buy or sell property to enroll or remove the parcels from the program. Additional information and a signup form are online at www.lyonco.org/tax-information.
