Communication: Connecting Comfortably as Women in the Workplace

From emails to Zoom calls, we are asked to become masters of many types of communication in the workplace.
Beyond the best practices for any particular channel, we are impacted by communication expectations for women and nonbinary people as compared to men in our culture.
When we coupled all these factors with COVID’s impact on in-person workplaces shifting online, we’re all facing new environments and we could use some help.
Come chat with Julie Walker to get a different perspective on how we can approach communicating with others in the workplace.

Small Business Connect: Preventing payroll tax increases
DID YOU KNOW?
If the Minnesota House of Representatives continues to stall a UI Trust Fund tax fix, small businesses will see huge payroll tax increases. Urge representatives to pass this bill before the March 15 deadline.
Recently, the Minnesota Senate passed a bill, on a strong 55-11 bipartisan vote, providing the $2.73 billion needed to fix the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund deficit by March 15. Now, the House needs to quickly pass the bill or UI payroll taxes will skyrocket.

The record-breaking, $7.7 billion budget surplus and billions remaining in federal coronavirus relief funds means the state should provide relief from a preventable tax increase. Small businesses, especially, are still struggling with rising inflation, a worsening workforce crisis, supply chain disruptions and more.
Minnesota policymakers agree: this needs to be done quickly. At the Minnesota Chamber's 2022 Session Priorities event, the four legislative leaders and Governor Walz agreed that a UI Trust Fund fix should be passed early in session. Here's what they had to say:

House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt: "It needs to pass. I think everybody's on record saying it will. We need to start with the federal money, expend all of that. And it needs to happen in the first month of session."

Senate Minority Leader Melisa López Franzen: "Soon."

Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller: "Senator Franzen is in luck because it's gonna happen soon in the Senate."

House Speaker Melissa Hortman: "There's no reason it can't happen soon."

Governor Tim Walz: "I know that there's the school of thought that says, 'Well, you gave away something that we should negotiate with.' We all want this. We all want this across the board. I don't think we should view everything, 'These are my things, I've got to negotiate to take these from you.' I believe it was the worker's priority. I believe it was the Chamber's priority. I believe it's fiscally responsible. Why would we pay increased taxes and pay interest to the federal government when we have the money here? That doesn't make sense."

Now’s the time to contact your House representatives and urge them to support the passage of the Senate’s UI Trust Fund fix legislation. Click below to contact your representatives today!
