Possible Implementation of Rental Inspection Ordinance in Marshall
As you may be aware, the City of Marshall, MN is considering the implementation of a rental inspection ordinance that will require all rental properties within the City of Marshall boundaries to be registered and licensed through the City.
On March 29, 2022, and March 30, 2022, the City welcomed all rental property owners to the City Council Chambers for a discussion regarding the proposed ordinance and its impacts to rental property owners. These two sessions were well-attended, and the City was able to listen and understand property owner concerns with the proposed ordinance.
We have taken the necessary time to further review the proposed ordinance and rental inspection program. We would now like to invite interested property owners back to the City Council Chambers for a final discussion regarding the rental ordinance before city staff brings the ordinance in front of the City Council for their review and consideration. To ensure that we have room to accommodate all interested guests, we have again scheduled two meetings:
Multiple family rental property owners: Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 3:30 p.m. Owners of single-family house rentals: Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 5:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be conducted in the City Council Chambers, located at 344 W. Main Street in Marshall.
If one of the meetings works better than the other, you may come at the most convenient time for you regardless of the type of property that you own. If you wish to provide input in a different manner, you may e-mail us at community.planning@ci.marshall.mn.us or mail a written statement to City Hall at 344 W. Main Street. You may also call 507-537-6773 with questions or comments.
Lastly, we are including some program information for you as part of this mailing along with the standard inspection forms applicable to your rental properties. We hope that the included information will help to inform you of the goal and intent of the program and answer some of your questions.

The Lyon County Museum is hosting professional storyteller, Pat Kachel
The Lyon County Museum, 301 W Lyon St, Marshall, is hosting professional storyteller, Pat Kachel on Tuesday, November 1 at 10:00 AM. Pati will present her program, “Ya Sure, I’m A Norvegin Luteran”.
Plan to join us to experience an educational and entertaining program presented by professional storyteller, Miss Pati Kachel. In this creative production of “Ya Sure, I’m A Norvegin Luteran”, Pati artistically weaves together songs, humor and historical information. She tells true stories about her courageous pioneering ancestors who immigrated from Norway to establish their homestead near Paynesville, Minnesota. For nearly forty years, Pati has been traveling across the Midwest performing her original one-woman shows. She has delighted audiences at hundreds of churches, schools, libraries and Sons of Norway and Daughters of Norway Lodges. She has researched, written and performs over 40 different shows, but this is one of her most requested presentations. To enrich the learning experience for her listeners, Pati also brings along an impressive tabletop exhibit of her family antiques and Norwegian handcrafted artifacts. Will even Norwegian bachelor farmers enjoy this show? Ya sure, you betcha!
Free event, light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the Lyon County Museum at 507-537-6580 or director@lyoncomuseum.org
