During this time, no terminations of tenancy for remodels will be allowed to occur in Long Beach. At the conclusion of the approved study, there will be recommendations made with how to best address these terminations of tenancy.

We will keep you updated on the progress of this local Long Beach legislation.

State Alert

Assembly Bill 537 (Quirk-D) Wireless communications and infrastructure

Currently, most local jurisdictions in California have non-standard permitting requirements for broadband infrastructure and timelines that do not align with federal requirements. Certain local jurisdictions are using best practices to approve and deploy broadband projects within a couple of months, but other jurisdictions take several years to approve similar types of projects. AB 537 would align California's process with current Federal Law.
In addition, although AB 57 provided a remedy for shot clock violations, it did not provide clarity for what "deemed approved" means for an applicant. This bill provides additional clarity which will allow applicants to deploy communications technology as AB 57 originally intended.

The Chamber has signed on to support this measure.

Senate Bill 378 (Gonzalez-D) Broadband infrastructure development project permit processing: microtrenching permit processing ordinance

Microtrenching is typically 60% cheaper and 80% quicker than traditional open-trench street excavations, as well as being less disruptive to the urban environment.

SB 378 fixes inconsistencies in local jurisdictions in California, by creating one singular standard for microtrenching infrastructure, in order to install fiber internet quickly, and have regulated standards to do so. The Long Beach Area Chamber has policy goals that align with this measure because we are in support of bridging the digital divide in Long Beach and in California.

Therefore, the Chamber has signed on to support this measure.
