Pike County Local Foods Group
Business Donations being Sought to Support Program

The Pike County Local Foods Group was organized in 2016. This group of community members and organizations meets monthly to promote local foods in Pike County. Some of our projects include pop-up markets, local foods vouchers, Pike County Local Foods Directory, monthly news column and working with the Pike County General Health District action plan.

In 2018, we partnered with Way Farms to promote local foods by providing vouchers to county residents to encourage them to purchase/use local produce. These vouchers were distributed by several community organizations and service providers including Community Action Committee of Pike County, OSU Extension Pike County, Adena Health System, and local insurance agents to clients, patients, and/or participants. These vouchers provided them $10 worth of local produce at Way Farms.

This project put fresh, local produce in the homes of county residents and hopefully encouraged users to return and purchase produce locally in the future.

Chillicothe Paints sign  catcher Dylan Shockley
for Upcoming 2019 Season

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, signed catcher Dylan Shockley for the upcoming 2019 season, which begins May 30 at  VA Memorial Stadium.

A native of Minford, Ohio, Shockley played for the Paints during the 2016 season and spent much of last season with the West Virginia Miners before finishing the summer with the Northwoods League's Kalamazoo Growlers.

Shockley hit .318 with the Miners in 33 games last summer and collected 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs and drove in 24.

In 28 games behind the plate last summer, Shockley committed just one error, had one past ball and threw out the third-most baserunners in the Prospect League, while having fewer attempted stolen bases against than those who threw out more.

Now in his redshirt junior season at the University of Rio Grande, Shockley is hitting .387 with 20 doubles, four triples, three home runs and 36 RBIs. Last spring, Shockley was named River States Conference Player of the Year, First-Team All-RSC and Second-Team NAIA All-American.

Shockley has a college career .366 average, 55 doubles, six triples, 11 home runs and 110 RBIs in 161 games. He missed all but one game of the 2017 season due to an injury.

The 2019 Chillicothe Paints season begins Thursday, May 30, at VA Memorial Stadium against the Champion City Kings at 7:05 p.m. The Chillicothe Gazette presents FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA by 94 Country and draft beer will be just $1 for Thirsty Thursday. The Paints have made the playoffs seven times in the 10 seasons since joining the Prospect League as a charter member in 2009. The Paints regularly lead the Prospect League in attendance with an average of nearly 2,000 fans per game and are one of the most highly-attended collegiate wood-bat summer teams in the country. Advertising and season ticket information is available by calling (740) 773-TEAM.
