Portsmouth Site Rehabilitates
Workers rehabilitated six wells used to supply water to  EM's Portsmouth Site.
Workers at  EM's Portsmouth Site recently rehabilitated six water wells, restoring them to their original design performance with substantially increased flow rates.

The two well fields near the Scioto River in southern Ohio provide all of the water for EM's  Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) and Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride (DUF6) Conversion projects, and site tenants at the former gaseous diffusion plant.

"The performance of these wells had reduced over time because of aging equipment, incrustation from mineral and biological buildup on well screens, and plugging of the aquifer," said Matt Vick, who oversees the site's maintenance programs for EM's  Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office. "This effort included new equipment and well cleaning to restore raw water yields from the wells. We are also installing variable speed pumps to improve operability of the well fields, reduce water usage, and also reduce wastewater from the lime softening process."

Falls Prevention Awareness
August 2018 Monthly Column

Approximately one in three older Ohioans will fall each year. Falls are the leading cause  of injury-related emergency department visits, hospitalizations and death among older  adults. Many medications and health conditions can contribute to a higher risk of falls.

To help end this epidemic, the Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7) recently  partnered with the Ohio Department of Aging, the Ohio Association of Area Agencies  on Aging, and Walgreens Pharmacy to raise awareness of older adult falls and  strengthen pharmacy relationships with referrals to local senior services and supports.   Recently, Walgreens on Bridge Street in Chillicothe and the AAA7 worked together to feature falls prevention awareness as a focus for the August Senior Day held at Walgreens.

It is important to regularly review medications with your pharmacist or health care professional so that you can understand the side effects, drug interactions and any other important information.
