Culvert Replacement Set To Begin On S.R. 335
Route Closure Scheduled Next Week
Preliminary operations are getting under way for a culvert replacement project on state Route 335 in Pike County, and closure of the route is scheduled to go into effect next week.
S.R. 335 will be closed between Township Road 511 (Straight Creek Road) and County Road 50 (Watson Road) for a culvert replacement project that involves replacing a twin, corrugated metal pipe arch with a 10x4-foot box culvert with full-height wingwalls and headwalls.
The closure is necessary due to the skew of the existing and proposed structures, as well as the project site's relation to a tributary and the slope of the terrain adjacent to the roadway. And although the contractors had planned to close the route today, June 12, the schedule has been postponed due to weather and materials-related delays.
Currently, it is anticipated that the route will be closed Tuesday, June 19, and once the route is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of S.R. 32 and U.S. 23. A local detour will also be established via Watson and Higby roads and Old U.S. 35 in Ross County.
Solid Rock Construction Services was awarded a contract in the amount of $291,238 to complete the project, and while the route may be closed for up to 45 days to install the new structure, all work is scheduled to be completed by late summer.

Elder Abuse Awareness
According to the Ohio Family Violence Prevention Project/Ohio Colleges of Medicine
Government Resource Center, each year in our district, around 4,200 seniors age 60
and over are abused, neglected or financially exploited. June 15th is World Elder Abuse
Awareness Day. The Area Agency on Aging District 7 (AAA7), which covers 10
counties in Ohio, including Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike,
Ross, Scioto and Vinton, encourages the community to be aware and educated
about elder abuse. If you or someone you know is the victim of abuse, it is
important to report it to the appropriate authorities.
