Creates
trophy bases for Scripps National Spelling Bee
Winners of the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee will unknowingly receive a memento from Pike County. The custom-made and hand-carved wood base of each soon-to-be awarded trophy was made by Family Woodworks LLC, a family-owned, custom woodworking business operated by the George Barlow family of Taylor Hollow Road. The Barlows also designed and built the Scripps Perpetual Trophy base which displays the trophy and names of all the National Spelling Bee winners.....

Next Chapter Carnival Fundraiser
brings in more than $5,600
The Garnet A. Wilson Public Library's new main facility is now even closer to breaking ground, according to Thomas Adkins, the library's executive director.
"The carnival held at the Pike County Fairgrounds in Piketon on Sunday, June 9 was a huge success," Adkins stated. "We raised in total over $5,600.".....

The Paint Valley ADAMH Board will be holding a Recovery Celebration on September 12, 2019. In order to help celebrate recovery we will be honoring a Mental Health and an Addiction Advocate of the Year as well as a Crisis Intervention Team Champion of the Year.

New Grant Opportunity for
Appalachian Communities
The U.S. Department of Labor announced announced $29 million is now available via the Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC). initiative to implement innovative approaches to provide enhanced training and support activities to dislocated workers, new entrants in the workforce, incumbent workers, and individuals affected by substance use disorder returning to work. Successful awards, ranging from $150,000 - $2.5 million, will support workforce development activities that prepare eligible participants for good jobs in high-demand occupations aligned with a state, regional, or community economic development strategy. Communities across Appalachia, especially those underserved by other resources, are encouraged to apply.
