29TH ANNUAL CHAMBER AUCTION & STEAK DINNER FUNDRAISER
This year's Chamber fundraising event will be held Friday, August 10 starting at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center. Ticket prices are $100 each.

The evening begins with a steak dinner and all the trimmings served from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. The Silent Auction begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Live Auction at 7:30 p.m. Plan to arrive a little early to browse the auction items until serving begins. Adding to the fun this year is music entertainment provided by Cow Patty Daddys with Jay Knight. Sound is again furnished by Cliff Richey and Bill Monk of Thrif-Tee Food Centers-Dayton and Mont Belvieu.

The steaks are prepared on-site by the ‘Flat-Line Cookers’, the award-winning cooking team of Liberty-County EMS, which consists of EMS personnel and volunteers. LaVonna Templeton is the un-official/official ‘Chief Cook’, who orders the food for this large event and organizes the preparation, along with Mike Koen and Johnny Spurlock.

Tickets are available for purchase from any member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, at either office of the Chamber (1801 Trinity St. in Liberty or 109 S. Main in Dayton). Tickets may also be purchased from Ken Coleman – Arrow Realty; David Leonard - Liberty-Dayton Chrysler; Skeet Raggio – Raggio Publishing/Liberty County Directory; Linda Taylor - former board member; Thrif-Tee Foods, Dayton - customer service office; and Venola Van Deventer – Broker/Associate-Van Deventer, Realtors. Additional sales sites will soon be added, along with items for the Live and Silent Auctions.

ABOUT THE '500' DRAWING
(view an enlarged image of the tickets here ).
The ‘500’ is a reverse draw with 15 great prizes to be won. Last year the ‘500’ Committee increased the number of prizes from 12 to 15, which will make five top prizes for five winners, instead of the final two top winners, as in prior years. Each ‘500’ ticket is your entry into the drawing and also entitles you to a delicious steak dinner with all the trimmings. Desserts and beverages are also included, at no charge.

Brady Hanson (Dayton Lease and Pipe Services) will be handling the Live Auction duties for the evening. Auction items include vacation and golf packages, tickets to entertainment and athletic events, fishing, camping and hunting gear, tools, household items and much more. Further information is provided as the day of the event nears. Please contact the Chamber to have your business represented with an auction item or monetary support of this year’s fundraiser.

COMPTROLLER ISSUES INITIAL GUIDANCE REGARDING TAX DECISION BY SUPREME COURT
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar has issued initial guidance regarding the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing states and local governments to collect sales tax from online retailers, overturning a previous ruling that made a large part of the internet a tax-free zone.

In a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court overruled two prior decisions that held that a state can only impose sales and use tax collection responsibilities on sellers of goods and services when they have a physical presence in the state. The decision means that states - and local jurisdictions - can now impose tax collection responsibilities on sellers who have an economic presence.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar's news release can be read here on the Comptroller's website.
